I am at a stand in my SM/DA. I have many unfinished minis for these lists, but have been one of the many that steered away when the last CSM codex came out. I was in persuit of making word bearers back then, they seemed like a great idea... Then this last edition came, and that idea went right out the window. I was getting my lists together, trying to organize what I wanted then, so I wouldnt waste too much money on minis I wouldnt need.
Well my idea at hand that I have, is that I have around 17 or so Robed dark angels on foot(most are either magnetised or just incomplete), and some Ravenwing bikers(also same scenario). I remembered from before that there was a warband that used alot of robed marines for their look. I was wondering if it would be a feasible idea to convert all of these said "robed" marines into either a Word Bearers legion or another legion of some sort? I have always felt more blah playing loyalist than I have whenever I have played CSM. Just a preference I guess...
Now with the new codex due to be released sometime in the "hopefully near" future, I was thinking about getting some of these models converted and somewhat ready for this codex. Please, I would love to hear what everyone's ideas and thoughts are on this. Also I have roughly around 3500+ pts of DA/SM stuff available to convert.
I think the robed army where the traitor DA, though I'm not sure...
I ordered DA veteran robed models (11), cut of the upper body, and gave them an Iron Warrior torso. These are the sorcerers (Thousand sons) of my Iron warrior army. I also used a robed leg for my Sorcerer Lord, which holds a converted staff in one hand and a flame in the other...
If you ask me, Word Bearers seem like a good army if you want to give most/all of your marines robes. Which them being a "religious" army 10.000 years in the past, it seems like a nice option to me...
I feel I should warn you though, about starting a new legion army right now. With the new rumoured codex just arround the corner, who knows what GW did to the Word Bearers, or any legion. They might not apeal to you anymore, and you'll regret investing money into them...
I know as of right now, I have 17 Robed Vets on foot. I could potentially setup the rest of my magnetised shoulders/arms to be ready for the new releases, but thinking I may just need to setup squad champions too with these robed vets? Or would just running a robe heavy army sound like a convertible, and visually appealing idea? The only squads i dont see it working would be for like bezerkers or plague marines... just too much key visuals to not see it in either of those... I dont think it would look right.
Any other ideas? As to other squad types that could be convertible for CSM? I dont think I will finish the modelling on any of them until I have a actual new CSM codex in my hands when its released. Till then, just magnets...
I'm not all that familiar with the fluff of the chaos WB, but from what I know, I would make them all robed. this may be a problem flufwise for the berzerkers, but who cares about fluf. If you give the berzerkers two CC weapons (currently converting this myself) then they really look like the CC masters of your army. As for the nurgle, there is all kinds of things you could do. Bloated bellies, pustules, half a head, skeleton head. Don't hold back on them! I bought the FW PM for my Iron warrior army, and painted them the samw way, except for rusty armour. But I have to redo them now, because they look SO similar to my normal marines you can't tell the diffirence from a distance. That you have to watch out for.
As for the dreadnought, I hate that thing, but if you want to use it, convert your Loyalist one. The Chaos version is rediculous.
Earlier today, I stopped by a local Gaming store to look over models, and noticed how horrible the CSM dread was. I think unless they redo that mini as well, mine may be either conversions or from FW... I like the idea about the PM's, I could easily see some putty changing them over to some nice bloated, rusty puss-like bodies. I'm sure the only ones that I may have to worry about looking similar would be the bezerkers... But I'm sure I can manage them to look different enough not to blend....too much. I'm looking forward to this new dex, to see what new ideas will lie ahead.
In addition to what I had available to convert from my SM/DA to chaos, someone the other day hooked me up with some more chaos. it contained a defiler, a rhino, an actual chaos dread, i wanna say around 30+ chaos marines, and what looks like around 16 bezerkers, 3 obliterators, and various possessed bits. At the moment, I think I am creeping up on some serious potential points with CSM. Hmm, I wonder what else I could convert over to CSM. Anyone have any good conversion ideas? Like what SM models you think are doable for WB conversions... Would love to hear ideas and comments.
I think the codex itself has a couple of warbands represented by robed marines,i am that far off?
Praise be to the Emperor!!
Thats what I had thought also, I just hadnt looked in their codex recently. . .
