Hello there all
With all the rumors flying around, is this a bad time to start a CSM army? ..
Will the standard troop models be replaced ? and what not ?
If they are, i will try and find another army to build, while i wait
The standard CSM troops kit is pretty good, there won;tbe a new one anytime soon, GW will probably not remake that for about ten years.
Consider the fact also that even if some kits get replaced, owing a few of the 'old' ones will add more variation to your army.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
Only when an army gets a complete overhaul, as was the case with the Necrons, do units no longer exist (and with the Crons, it was only Pariahs that got eliminated). The vast majority of our units will stay right where they are, so it's perfectly fine to start building a new Chaos army, and using whatever units you please. My advice would be to hold off on adding any Elite units besides Terminators for the moment, as that's the section we're most likely going to see a major overhaul (Chosen, Possessed and Dreadnoughts all need major work) and you don't want to stock up on one of them just to see it lose most of its punch.
Certain models and units like standard CSMs, and rhinoes will always be a good choice, I reckon that bezerkers will also probably be a good choice still, as will terminators, as GW are limited with how much they can change them (for the worse at least) by the loyalists, so they can only really get better or stay the same.
I doubt many units, at least these core ones will get worse (much), so they are a safe buy. Defilers are also likely to remain decent, but some of the other heavy support may change (I'm thinking of obliterators).
One pice of advice though, is to try to find an online version of the codex, or borrow a friends, as that is the one thing guaranteed to change (obviously).

There are two 'problems' at the moment. One is as mentioned above the new codex could change some units being better, and others worse for the current 5 th edition.
The second 'problem' is that 6 ed will be released, which might change the whole ball game from 5 ed.
I concur with the above though, that the normal vanilla troop choice will still be viable with the new codex in 5ed, as well as 6 ed, but for the rest that is different matter.
I say just go for it. Buy what you want, for whatever reason. if it all get s changed then just lay with it anyway because it looks cool. if you really want to change he models that you have when you see that they arent as good under new rules, then just ebay them off.
I would agree that sticking to the basic units is best for now.
The current Troops choices are very unlikely to dissappear.
I wouldn't finishing making any other models that you would buy until the new codex arrives, as we are likely to get more choice than we currently have.
Im re-starting my Chaos Marines, into Word Bearers. I have no idea if there will be Legion Rules will be back, no idea word bearer legion rules will bad, or another legions will be more appealing. (i have alots of deamons so word bearers sounded like a good idea), Im taking a leap of dark faith here.
If your doing a "regular" chaos army, then i think sticking to the basics is a very good idea. If you want more info on nw chaos check out the rumors section.
hmm.. gonna take a leap of faith too, gonna start a Iron Warrior themed army.. so gonna convert a lot ..
then when the codex get released, i will take it from there
But thanks to all of you !
