I'm worried about the Legions coming and I'm not sure if I should be. You see I didn't play 40K back when you had Legions, so when I collected CSM, I painted many of them as Hakanor's Reavers and the lava print mainly because I thought it looked cool. Maybe I'm worried because I don't really know how this will affect my army as it is painted now and I really have next to no clue about the different Legions. I really don't want to repaint my figures. What I really want to know is with Hakanors Reavers, some 1000 Sons and some Berserkers, am I going to be a bit screwed if I want to play a Legion? Do you think I'll have to repaint my figures or am I worrying for nothing?
I wouldn't think so. I mean you just state what legion they belonged to and keep the paint scheme. Your opponents shouldn't mind and if he does remind him that most legions broke up after the heresy and formed war bands by personally I can't see a reason why he could object. What could happen is that depending on the legion you choose it could limit the choices you can field because certain legions favored some units and lacked others.
If the war by heavens gate released desire
In the line of fire someone must have known
That a human heart demands to be admired
Cuz in the center of the universe we are all alone
Innovation suffuses this hobby like a tea bag in the boiling water of play.
Dont worry, just with every codex this is just a book of rules on how to play as X army.
I am 100% sure that it wont be a requirement to paint to specific legion colours to play as legion X.
If it did, chaos players would put Khorne Berzerkers(hell, even khorne himself)to shame.
An example:The DA have their own codex but nobody stopped me from fielding them as codex marines.
Ive seen BA using the chaos dex too.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
As long as your Marines are equipped correctly you should be able to use any codex. I have seen Smurfs as BA, Da used at salamanders, Chaos used as Space puppies and BA. Paint is the last thing you need to worry about. As previous posters have mentioned you may be limited on usage of Berzerkers or Plague Marines depending on which legion you choose. GW is known for making models Illegal with new updates, I don’t for see that happening too much since Chaos didn’t have much for special characters/models anyway.
i think the way it will work is that once you choose the HQ you will run that will govern what legion you are and what units/models you can play. the paint scheme really doesn't matter. if you play abby, or little horus aximand (he is rumored to make an appearance) then you will play by the black legion rules.
I love the smell of promethium in the morning.
You've never been required to paint an army any specific way to play it according to specific armies. If that were true, conversions and proxying would be considered illegal, as well as substitutions, and even GW substitutes models for others; one of their blog posts has fantasy ghouls standing in for Nurgle Plaguebearers.
My khornate army has some minor adjustments compared to the real World Eaters colour scheme, such as blackened shoulder pads and faces(see avatar/signature) - but I still claim they're World Eaters. The legion has split up into multiple smaller war bands and my army is simply one of them. You pick a legion as your army's origin - there's no requirement that you paint them in a certain way.
Thanks for all the info. I started 40K shortly after the CSM codex came out without Legions, so I really didn't know what to expect. The thing is if we are going to get some cool new rules and options with Legions, why not use it to it's fullest? I don't play in any tournaments anyway, so I should be good. I will have to buy some new units though as I have a jumbled up mix of guys now.
If you like CSM now, just wait until you see how cool they are when they actually have a good codex.
