So....seeing as that our codex is new...and every edtion be for 5th we were in the Chaos Marines Codex....does anyone think that for 6th edition they may transfer us back into the CSM Codex and be done?
I am wondering if maybe they may put us back into the CSM codex for good seeing as the Chaos Deamons are not very popular in terms of anyone playing them....for the most part I am one of the only players in the entire Lancaster area that plays them on a consistant basis with the belief that I will win out on most games...some players have them but more for a hobby point of view "Oh look a Shiny"
Pretty much everywhere I go they are a very low key army also....I went to Berks Spring Assault this weekend and only saw two other players out of 80 Players. The only Player was playing with models from when the Deamons First came out and has not bought anything new for what looked like ever so I was sure he hasnt bought any more. The other Player was playing a FateCrusher list...but still only three players out of 80....I dont really see GW taking in that much money from us as a Stand Alone Codex.
I am only writing this as a Worry that we may lose our codex and get put back into the CSM Codex. Does anyone Else have any Worries or Thoughts on this Matter?
I doubt daemons will lose their codex. To me it seems very unlikely for a few reasons.
-Daemons aren't played a lot because our codex is garbage not because the idea or look of daemons doesn't appeal to people.
-Daemons have a fantasy army too and are/were quite popular (because they on the other hand were very good). As far as I can tell any sales they get on 40k are just gravy because they are already a successful range of models within warhammer fantasy.
-We have too many models to just get put back into codex CSM. We've got special characters with models like skulltaker, masque, fateweaver and epidemus and also a lot of other daemons that weren't in older chaos codexes. Because of this the chaos codex with marines and daemons would have to be huge or would have to eliminate a lot of our units forcing people to shelve a ton of models.
To me it seems likely that whenever gw decides that daemons need an update in fantasy we'll get our new codex at the same time.
Nice Reply Goatlust.
Your ideas hit a few areas that I was not contemplating. Thank you
I think you may see a bit more of a makeover in our next codex much like the Necrons. Remember the old Necrons with phase out? No one wanted to play Necrons because of it. Well it's kinda the same with Daemons in their weird deployment. I don't think our codex is bad, I just think the odd deployment turns people off especially now that so many new codices are messing with the Deep Strike. Now Daemons have to worry about what wave comes in first, having half their army in reserve with no choice about it, deep strike mishaps and now armies messing with the deep strike. You could contend with all that or just play a regular army with regular deployment options. But for the reasons already mentioned, we won't lose our codex but it will be tied closer to CSM since it sells better.
Thank you also Andrew
Also just what I needed to here
I was just having some worrys....and the only reason I was worrying is because Ive been in situations where Gw has ****ed with Codex's and stuff I have owned has become obselete.
GW has emphatically stated that anyone already with a codex will not be 'squated', so no, I don't think we're going to be folded back into codex: spiky marines.
Saying that however, I think if the spiky marines get things like 'lesser daemons' with marks of chaos as an option, it could very well mean that we're stuck with our codex for a while yet.
We're not a 'crap' army by any means! Hell, the only army we're not outright capable of roflstomping is GK's because they're just plain broken vs us. We have answers, (maybe not 'exceptional' answers), to every other book. Outside of GK's, we're just like every other army in that we have our 1-2 power builds. Sure we need some fixings, such as the lamentably & badly implimented prefered waves + deployment gimmick, but then Chaos Marines, DA's, Templars, Sisters, Tau, Eldar & Orks share those same problems as well of being behind the curve.
I think what we should honestly hope for in the new Chaos Marine codex is for them to get 6th edition versions of our basic Troops like 'letters, horrors, plaguies & daemonettes!
This creates a visible & highly unfair situation where we Daemons players are forced to pay through the nose for what is exactly 'the same' model and we have out-of-date rules as added insult. This would force GW's hand as they'd then be forced to look at releasing a shiny new Daemons codex within a 6-12 month'ish time frame in order to redress & balanced out our army.
In other words, GW releases 4pts skeletons for undead army 'A' in May 2011. This causes massive outrage from players of undead army 'B' who are stuck paying 8pts for a worse skeleton, but then get their newly polished current edition book just 7 months later in January 2012!
Keep in mind too another factor in our favour; "Chaos" is being heavily focused on and made into the super bad@$$ threat that could utterly ruin the Imperium of Man in 6th edition's storyline. Chaos specifically, not just 'Chaos Space Marines/Legions'...
Seems kinda silly for the Dark God's true servents to stay an edition behind the times and continuous eye-raped by GK's if they're the focal bad guys, doesn't it?!

I know rumours are just that...rumours, but I heard that a new Daemons codex was in the works complete with new Greater Daemon models. It is because the new CSM dex will have new Daemon options, that GW feel that the Daemons codex should come in line with it. In that rumour, it stated that the CSM Daemon Prince for instance would become more like the Daemons' Daemon Prince. Which would be terrific since the Daemons' Daemon Prince is not a psyker. Look, fantasy Daemons sell well as I understand it and GW is all about money and how to make more of it. If they think they can make a winner out of the Daemons, they will just to make more money.
Too many models in the shared WHFB line.Originally Posted by slann-o-engine-eo
A possible scenario is that a subset of the daemons codex will be updated for the next chaos marines/legions/whatever dex, and the rest of the line moved to chapter approved.

Look at what the Empire just got with Karl Franz + Deathclaw & Volkmar on his popemobile... Now think Bloodthirster + Skarbrand options!!! (those ruined, burning wings would show-up in soooooo many conversions!)
