So ive been toying around with a pretty Nasty unit in the Last few weeks during my fun games . Ive been Calling it my Mini Slaanesh Death Star and ive only been playing it in small Games, but I think I may actually bring it to a Larger Game..... it has been paying back for its points every game and I have not had a Bad experience with it yet
The "DeathStar" consists of:
6 Fiends of Slaanesh
Herald of Slaanesh
The Reason why I have been having such good luck with it is because when it drops on the Field it can pavane something closer or out of Cover for next turns assault...or it can push something around that you dont want it to be near...you know pavane things. After it pavanes the turn it drops it can pavane the next turn...giving your unit a possible 30 inch charge range. When this unit gets into combat you have a possible 30str5 rending attacks, 6str6 rending attacks, and 6str4 rending attacks. This is a total of 42 rending attacks with a reach of 30 inches. This unit also has really good wound allocation shenanigans with the MightFiends, regular Fiend, and Herald.
Also Stats this unit has destroyed the following in several games for me-- against Salamanders. 2 vindicators, 1 rhino, 10 Marines, 5 terminators, and a Librarian in a 1250 Game. When I played this unit in 1500 against Necrons it killed 20 Warriors, a unit of 3 Spiders, 8 Scarab Swarms from combined wounds and Fearless checks, and 5 Wraiths. I also played it against Orcz at 1000k and it killed 20 Boys,15 Shoota boys, and 6 Lootas. I am Happy
Sounds nice and I like your way of thinking in new directions.
three problems i see in it is:
1. if you pavane you lose your fleet, so in the turn you land you dont get to spread out as you use a shooting attack.
2. pavane gets your oppenent closer to you by 1d6, fleet gets you closer by 1d6, and pavane has only a 66% chance of a hit with the heralds bs 4 (it's 4 right?)
3. you need to deepstrike within 18 inches of your target to use pavane, i.e. you're allready well within your threatdistance with fleet, move, fleet, assault, i'd rather give the herald hit and run instead and maybe def/assault grenades
Good points. The herald is only BS3 and as pavine would only close the range by the same as fleet I would use fleet as a more reliable action and you don't need to pay points for it. Pavine is better however when the enemy are in cover as you don't have grenades and fiends love the high initiative to teduce the retalliation attacks.
I think drop the pavine and replace for Gaze. Does your herald have hit&run (Musk is it) and will this mean the fiends cannot H&R if the herald doesn't? That would be a shame as H&R is a great power and the main reason I like fiends. The grenades on the herald are good too. Heralds offensive grenades get you a few attacks before enemy in cover strike but that isn't that effective. However even one model having a defensive grenade in effect gives that bonus to the whole unit.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
The pavane Helps the Fiends have the ability to Strike things that were pulled out of Cover...sort of a psuedo Grenade for them..cause the heralds grenades will only effect him and the Fiends are left at low intiative for combat.
Sorry Sirholy I should have Worded my intentions with Pavane better. All your Points are very valid...but they are not problems...you should see them differently and yes I know about the distances with Pavane and what I meant with the 30 inch threat range is what I should have explained a lot more. What I use the pavane for is deepstriking in close to armies with my fiends.....when I pavane at them "if" I hit them, I push them around into or out of an area that would effect their ability to shoot at me. Rapid fire Range for Marines...Rapid fire for Necrons...lazguns...lots of things that get scaryer when they get closer, FLamers, heavy flamers.. I push them away saving some Wounds on my fiend Squad...then next turn I pull them back or just leave them where they Are. The 30 inch threat range was a combination of the deepstrike turn and the movements next turn...just Worded Badly Sorry Buddy.
I also have not been paying that much for Hit and Run only becaue I was trying to keep the Points low on the unit. It is something I do plan on investing when I up the Points value to 1850-2500.
Hey just wondering, how many points is the deathstar cost???
