Hey Everybody. Im gunna buy the Chaos battle force for my Word Bearer Project. I never liked Bezerkers, But i'll make the best of it with a 10 man squad, with a Plain Rhino. However, i want something different. I've been rolling a few ideas around like All Chain Swords, or All Axe-type Melee weapons. Also all have Regular choas helmets, or perhaps, No Helmets! Do you guys think this is a good idea? I have Branded my Skin with the mark of Slaanesh, and i from time to time study Nurgle and Tzeetch, but im clueless with Khorne, no sure if said ideas are too far off from the source material.
What Khorne Bezerker Variations have you guys seen? It can be an enemy unit you saw once, your own creation, something you once say in a book, internet, magazine etc. The more you tell me, the more it can help me.
Most Khorne traditionalists go with as many chain axes as they can get (easily done with the Forge World Chain Ax set). If you're looking for something different, you'd want to avoid that. Normal axes, like from the Fantasy Marauders might be neat.
Something I did with mine, though, if you want different helmets, just hack off the 'bunny ears' from the standard zerker helms. It makes them look quite cool if you don't like the normal look--especially the skull face helmet.
Berzerkers, model wise, are very boring. They all have the same helm and basically the same weapons and armor. Fluff wise, they should have whatever they got dropped onto a plannet with... I think in the dex it says they will kill people with a chain axe, bare hands or even a big rock, if thats what is needed... Really, most chaos is just that, CHAOS. You can design them to have old rusty swords if you want, no one will be able to do much to disprove it. I feel that if you get the point across that the weapon is a CCW, then no one will care much. If you give them all Grey Knight halberds, yeah... Might be a stretch, but other than that, do what you want! Your army, your models/time/moneyz, make them your own!
I have alot of zerkers, some are very basic, almost the exact model out of the box, others have weapons and helmets from the fantasy Chaos Warrior box, others have helmet-less heads, some have 2 CCWs and no gun (I hardly use the things anyways). Hah
Here's some of mine from ~3 years ago. I did a bit of work trying to make the poses more interesting, but it's nothing special. It doesn't really take that much work to turn the rather bland berzerkers into something more interesting. Just butcher a bunch of close combat arms, mix in some bits from here and there and you're got a more alive unit than you would have from just putting the basic bits together.
There's some more in the thread linked in my signature if you're interested. I finished the last model in that army a couple of weeks ago, but I stopped updating that thread ages before that, so it doesn't show anywhere near the full army. Still, it's there if you're curious.
The fantasy range is definitely worth a look in, especially the warriors of chaos, as great weapons/halberds would look really cool, as could flails or just some variant axes, and in terms of heads, do whatever you want, bare heads, skull heads or even normal ones. And dual axes will never be wrong.
EDIT: Just saw a flail in Kaiser's thread, looks pretty cool, you could always do more than just the one (especially as bare muscley arms suit them quite well as well), and some shields could look cool as well, even if they are a bit of a copy of his idea.

adamwelton "Bliss-giver is right as always."
"Opportunities multiply as they are seized."
Bare arms, with or without shoulder pads or just one, etc.
Remove the "faceplates" of their helmets and insert bare faces.
Build their weapons as a combination of the chain sword/axe and bolt pistol into halberds.
Spiked skulls on chains/flails as weapons.
Fix some of their goofy side-stepping running legs into straight forward running charges.
