I'm in the Process of making a Word Bearer Force and i need to add as many Icons as possible. Since there a bit Rare, i need to use them Wisely. So whst Icons are best fro what Squad/ Squad set up??? So You know I currently have
Plauge Marine Squad
Thousand Sons Squad
Noise Marines w/ Sonic Weapons (WIP)
5 Possessed Marines (WIP)
5 Terminators (Chain Fist, Auto Cannons)
+ Slaanesh Termie Lord w/ Blissgiver
8 Raptors (w 2Melta guns, 1 PW)
Im thinking for the Regular Marines, The Icon of Glory would be best. For the rest, Im not really sure guys. I have 2 sets of Winged jet packs, I think there too ugly for an HQ, So i guess i can make 2 more raptors with it, Perhaps one with an Icon? What do you think is best for anti-Armor Raptors? (Side note, I can Remove Meltas and replace with Flamers, these 2 arn't painted yet)
Should I add an Icon to the Terminators? Can't do Nurgle or Khorne.
I got the Possessed but im not sure what to do. There supposed to be good next codex with a rule allowing you to choose the power they get, but im still not sure whats best. I'm leaning towards tzeetch
When is Icon of Nurgle Best? or Tzeetch, or Slaanesh?
Wait a couple of months and you'll be able to build a true Word Bearers army using rules specifically for that Legion. A new chaos codex is soon to be released, this one dealing with the true Legions.
Word bearers have always used lots of cultists and also possessed and generic CSMs.

Berzerkers, Plagues, Thousand Sons and Noise Marines already have Marks, no need for Icons unless you want deepstriking units to land near them (as that's the only thing they can be used for, no Mark mixing). There are no Cultist units in the current codex, so I'm gonna guess you mean regular Chaos Space Marines? For them, I prefer Icon of Chaos Glory, especially if you already have the others.
Don't try and build an army by predicting what the next codex will bring, rumours are exactly that: rumours. A lot of them come about by wishlisting rather than actual sources, and other times they're simple misdirection. Not to mention there really is no concrete idea when the next codex will come out, so build an army for what you can follow now and adapt them when the new codex comes out.
So following that logic, leave the Possessed unmarked for now. You can always add a model with an icon later, and right now, unless you're like me and play an army based on the lore, Possessed aren't very good. For the others, depends on the role you want; Slaanesh is good for Raptors, especially if they have power weapons, while Khorne works better if they have a power fist or chainfist, as Slaanesh has no effect on the power fist Initiative reduction. Same goes for the Terminators, Slaanesh if they have power weapons, Khorne if they have power fists or chainfists.
As for when each is best, depends on your opponent largely, and your playstyle. Nurgle is best if you play against a lot of low-medium strength weapons with low armour piercing, like bolters or lasguns. This is because it's harder for the enemy to wound you, so you roll less saves. Tzeentch is better if you're playing against a lot of power weapons or weapons with high armour piercing, like Eldar Banshees (all of whom have power swords) or plasma-heavy Marines. This is because you actually get to use a save then, rather than just take a wound and die. As for Slaanesh, this is best used when playing against Marine armies and your army is dedicated to close combat. Other armies, like Orks, Imperial Guard or non-genestealer Tyranids, already have a lower Initiative, so the Icon would be pointless. Armies like Eldar, Dark Eldar, Slaaneshi Daemons or genestealer-based Tyranids all high really high Initiatives, higher even than you with your Icon boost, so it's also pointless.
So if you don't plan on tailoring your lists to combat certain armies, Icon of Chaos Glory is the way to go for units that don't already come with Marks. This is because it's always useful, doesn't depend on your opponent, and can be used if your army is either shooty or assault-based.
Also, I personally have a Word Bearer's army, and I don't use any Icons on my Terminators, Chosen, Lords, or regular Marines. I use the Icon of Khorne on my Possessed because they're my assault troops, but it becomes a VERY expensive unit, and like I say in my previous post, it's too unreliable for competitive play, I only use them because I enjoy randomness and play mainly for fun.
Looks like im canceling the chaos project til the new codex.
I guess ill work on my Necrons, Demons, Orks, and Tyranids
