I am a long term player, Nids and now Tau, and I have to admit that the attraction of the Warp is too strong to resist any longer!! But my question is, should I start now or wait for the new 'Dex to come out? All opinions welcome and thanks in advance for your help!
Buy a box of regular CSM, you will always have need of ordinary bolter marines...
win some, lose some
I would borrow/read the codex just to know what the army/fluff is like and like Arjuna said if the lure is too long grab a box of CSMs to paint up with whatever your chosen colors will be. This close to the codex I would personally wait. It's no good starting a new army just to have to modify it based on a new codex and a new rulebook.

Thanks for the advice. I have bought the codex and am busy reading through it. I think I am gonna wait to get started but might just buy the odd box, just to work out my paintscheme, although I think ultimately the lure of The Blood God may be too strong as it best suits my play style :-)
Cult troops will definately still be in (Berzerkers, Noise, THousand Sons, Plague Marines) but we don't know if they'll stay troops or move to Elites. Regular Marines, Rhinos, Land Raiders and Terminators will certainly stay, but some may be tweaked rules or point-wise. Any of those should be fine, and a good basis for any Chaos army, competitive or themed to the Blood God like you indicate.
Excellent, as always, thanks for all the help
I agree with Arjuna and Marius, there will be some models you can buy without fear of not being able to use them anymore.
"Regular" Chaos Space Marines, all the cult troops, all the vehicles, daemon princes, these are all safe.
Innovation suffuses this hobby like a tea bag in the boiling water of play.
Excellent, might just go pick up a Battleforce then. Thanks for all the help and I will continue to trawl the forum for all the Chaos related goodness (can I say that :-)) that I might find
The current battleforce has a good mix of units in it including Possessed. The way the Possessed work in the current Codex has made them a very rarely taken unit, but the parts which come to build them are great for using in conversions for Chosen or Aspiring Champions.
I think we could be seeing a return to an approach similar to the previous Chaos Codex regarding the four Ruinous Powers in this new Codex. I hope so, as I had planned and started to build an Emperor's Children list and then they went and changed the goalposts.

If you are getting the battleforce, do so soon, as in before the second of June, I've just seen this (Chaos Price hikes...) in the warriors of chaos forum refering to 40k as well.
Not sure how true it is, but no-one was doubting it over there.
