Well I'd like to do a Beastmen army for 40k. So I'd obviously have to choose chaos and go from there. I don't want to do a LATD army (Already done it) So that leaves me with Space marines. I have done Deathguard, Tzeentch's rules won't fit, Khorne is too one dimesional and Iron warriors are just plain wrong. So that leaves me With Slaanesh, Nightlords, Word Bearers and Alpha leigion.
I don't like the extravagance of Slaanesh and Word Bearers are IHMO innapropriate. So this leaves me with either Nightlords or Alpha Legion. Keep in mind the leigions chosen are for rules and special attributes of the list that I feel represent the beastmen better than a 'nilla list. For example Alpha leigion has Cultists (Ungors and other weaker beasts) I was also thinking Nightlords to impose the -2 HS to represent the lack of heavy stuff (Ie tanks and surplus heavy weapons) even if I did't take the extra FA slot.
So Which leigions Rules and attributes better suit a small band of Hardend beastmen?
The problem with using cultists is that, at least in warhammer fantasy, beastmen are supposed to be tougher than regular humans, and alpha legion cultists are incredibly weak. As you said, though, they could be ungors, and the infiltration and furious charge abilities fit quite well. It would be really wierd in my opinion trying to use space marine rules to represent beastmen anyway, where does the 3+ save come from, and the high BS?
I would have thought the LatD rules would be good for this, with gors as mutants and ungors as traitors (with lasguns, which would make for fun converting.) But you already have one, so..
Hmm.. it's a dilemma. I also know there were old stats for beastmen in 40k, but the points values will likely have become skewed over the different editions, so they might end up losing badly and frequently.
Those are all the ideas I can come up with. Write to GW and tell them to stop doing different types of inquisitor armies and give us some damn beastmen.

They *were* one of the mightiest Undivided Warbands at one point though the powers of Chaos can be fickle...

Yes, belive it or not it was in the IG codex.
