When I was reading the description in the codex on Chosen and Space Marine weapon limitations for Mark of Tzeentch, at first it said that Chosen have no special restrcitions and then under Marines it said all models must have bolters unless they are termies, but can you have chosen with heavy weapons or what?
That confused me for a while to. There are two ways to buy Terminators for Tzeentch.
The first is to take chosen with the Mark of Tzeentch, they will all be sorcerors and thats about all thats different about them. They have all the same weapon options in the 'Chosen' entry.
The other is to buy them as upgrades to a squad of regular Rubric Marines. Only Tzeentch can do this, and it'll be an elites choice, but not chosen. They are stuck with comb-bolters and powerfists, but have the two wounds.
Thats interesting, what a trade-off. Any suggestions?
If you want termies go for the upgraded rubric ones with the ac being able to upgrade his weapon and all like a normal squad but they are all really tough. If using actual chosen I dunno, them all being sorcs is cool but they have no shield just seems like a big expensive unit walking around with a target painted on it.
There's simply not really a need for chosen outside of a few specialist roles in a tzeentch army. They are the following:
Heavy weapons squad. Get 5 or 6 and give all but one BoC or a missle launcher and one enough points to get the reroll misses minor psychic power. This is really expensive compared to a havoc squad but the advantage is a) no special weapons are shown on models so they all get bp and ccw and just look like a little squad of possessed. b) moving and shooting those bolts.
Assault terminators to go with your lord armed with winds or gift of chaos. However, you get better results from possessed in this role sadly enough.
In a tzeentch army your best elites are rubrics and possessed (these do amazing things when combined with gift or wind of chaos). Chosen simply just are too expensive for what they do for the most part.
Btw, rubrics come with combi-bolter and powersword, not powerfist. If they had fists they would be broken.
and thankfully to the FAQ, models with Slow but purposefull no longer strike only at I1
