I was wondering.
What better 2 dreads with lascannons
1 dread with lascannon and 1 tactical squad
Purge the daemon where ever it may be!
IMO the second choice, 2 dreadnoughts rarely survive a turn
Welcome to LO.
As to your question. What do you mean? Dreadnoughts and tactical squads have very diffenrent purposes in the marine army.
Since you mentioned the Lascannons I will assume that you mean for heavy support. Well the main difference here is that dreadnoughts take damage like vehicules (IE: 1 lucky shot can bring it down) while a squad of tactical marines will require you to kill each and every model. On the other hand, Dreadnoughts can move and still fire their lascanon.
This is a very difficult question as there is no "better" choice. They are just different. Do yuo hagve a specific role they are to play? How many tactical squads are already in the army? Does it have any other vehicles? These are just some of the questions that can change wether one of these units is "better" then the other.
Perhaps you can give us more details on what you want from this unit?
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
Well, first I'll say that there is no such thing as tactical squads in the chaos army list. Here we talk about chaos space marines squads or havoc squads, tactical squads are units used only by the heretic lovers of the false emperor . The thing that is closest to a tactical squad is a normal chaos space marine squad as it can pack a special weapon and a heavy weapon.
If you are contemplating taking 1 dreadnought and 1 chaos space marine squad then you are better off with 2 dreadnought IMO, the main reason being that you can pack more firepower with 2 dreadnought and that since you have an armour value, not every weapons can bust it, plus the fact that you can have 2 heavy weapons. Yes you have more wounds in a chaos space marine squad but using 5 men to fire 1 weapon is a waste of points if you ask me. A tactical squad with 2 special weapons is something else though as it have its uses so it depends on the weapons you will give your marines.
And yes, like Chaosbrynn state, the lucky shot can kill a dreadnought in a turn and I must say mine tend to get destroyed every game but it also generally get its own worth in points back and his fire magnet upgrade divert the fire power of the ennemy from my advancing on foot squads, you know the ones that deliver daemons  .
Main advantage of a dreadnought over the chaos space marine squad is its CC abilities, it rock in CC, is almost never outnumbered and get flank the ennemy since he can advance and shoot at the same time. Plus the models just rock.
Go with a dread and a tactital squad because the tactical squad will last much longer and they will be aiming for the dread
