    Good day everybody. I am a noobie and just was ponderin on something. I'm building a Iron Warriors army and i was just wonderin if its more advisable to minimize (5) or make tac squads bigger (7-10). I usually field 7 but Many people are saying that i should cut down to 5 for tac squad sizes. I use 4 heavies (a defiler, basilisk, havoc squad with haevy Bolters and a predator) and just abot 2 tac squads wit las cannon n plasma. Army total somewhere at 1000 points.

    any feedback would be nice. tnx

    I usually run out of points for a dev squad so i include five men squads with 1 hvy weapon
    that works well for me

    I know of a good guide for creating an IW list... let me look it up...

    Here we go:

    How to make an Iron Warrior army, by Hohenheim:
    • HQ - uber prince
    • Elites - as many oblits as you can fit in, usually 6 or 9
    • Troops - 2 small squads, three if they want more lascannons, usually min/max
    • Fast attack - HA! need points for spamming Heavy
    • Heavy support - 1 Basilisk, 1 Defiler and 2 Preds or similar theme.
    To avoid falling into this category of player, I would suggest larger squads with some varied weaponry.

    The first thing you should ask yourself is.. Would someone else want to play agains a power gamed army? with lots of minimax and über mega ap 1/2/3 arsenal?

    well i would not.

    I prefer sqauds of 8-10 troops big or 2 simple reasons.

    1. they can take some casualties beforet hey start running.
    2. It make it more sporty and I won't get cheese thrown at me

    will says this about IW make any vehicles have ord, rather than a predator you can have 2 6 man squads with tank hunter (if the pred is tooled up with possession mutated hull etc), 1 less shot admittedly, but can shoot 2 diff targets and has 12 wounds before they're worth full VP, rather than falling to a lucky plasmay shot, troops can carry lascannons but not battle cannons, so take ord while you can

    Think you are on the right track.

    For my part I generally field 7-8 marines in a bolter armed squad and as many as I can afford, maximum of ten, in a cc squad. The choices are based on experience, primarily vs loyalist marines. The cons vs smaller or larger squads being that larger squads become somewaht unwieldy and smaller ones do not have enough staying power, as Dreachon mentioned.

    Yeah, I used to field seven men tac squads. they have good staying power but I get to field 1 or 2 extra heavy wepons for 5 man quads (squeezing out points from elsewhere in the army). very hard to decide which. hehe.

    We have a guy aat our local game store that fields FULL squads of marines, 20 freakin CSM's its incredible, i love watching him play it.

    Since You play IW your'e going to want to shoot lots. I personally feild 5 man tacs beacause you get 1 hvy weapon per 5 C marines andnot 1 hvy. weapon per 7 or 10 C marines
