I was browsing through the codex today for a 500 pt chaos army and I was rather intruiged by modeling a lance to fit onto my LT....
I'm just looking for a general concensus on how it seems to work.
Ap3 is great, seeing as marines/other chaos seem to be abundant, the Str isn't horrible....
But comparing it to the other Deamon wepons like the dread axe (heh, gg Chaplain) or the Kai gun (ap3, stronger and more attacks) or the Sword whos name I forget right now (with the str and what not).....It doesn't seem appealing. Would combining the lord with wings work? Hide out of LoS. You turn, jump to him, fire, assault....Prehaps frying his marines in the process..They take an instant hit, decent chance to wound them...The lord finishes the squad off prehaps.
The problem being that he is now helplessly alone vs the entire other army in some cases.
Has anyone here used it to any effect?
I think its cheaper to make a model a sorceror and give it Wind of Chaos, then just five points over 35 to get a power weapon thats ISN'T a Daemon weapon.
Wind of chaos is a lot better than the ether lance. It always wounds on a 4+, so can deal with harder enemies like death guard or anything on a jetbike, and costs the same points. A power weapon and D.strength is only another 25 points (thats not an upgrade cost 40k mods, see, there are TWO wargear items ) which is much more appealing. If you wanted you could go the whole hog and give the LT gift and a different daemon weapon. The Dreadaxe is the more all-purpose weapon, but I like the legion-specific ones. Appart from the Slaanesh ones, they suck so much it's unreal.
