Well, I got hold of a rhino boxed set, and noticed that one of the sprues featured the option to replace the searchlights with what looks like a warp amp. Initially, I just scoffed and thought 'too expensive.' But when I thought about it, I began to think that maybe this could be used well, allowing the rhino to tank shock its way through crappy screening units and maybe hanging around (until it inevitably gets blown up) to provide leadership penalties once the squad inside gets into a fight.
I'm quite keen to use as much sonic weaponry as possible, because it's what makes the Slannesh army really amusing and themed, but it would be more fun to do that while still creating a reasonable force. So, is sticking an expensive upgrade like this on a Rhino a big no no?
In my opinion no weapon option is really a 'no-no' it all depends on how you fluff your force, who your opponents are, and whether or not you want to try out all the options.
That warp amp could potentially become very handy. If you play alot of games weekly or monthly, what could it possibly hurt to include it in an army list or two just to measure it's effectiveness against your regular opponents.
The guy I usually play against fields a massive ork army, where the warp amp would be of extremely limited use. But the rest of the sonic weaponry pays dividends against them!
Try it out, good luck!
The Warp Amp is one of the few things a Rhino can do well.
I personally HATE these purple heart boxes so I dont use them but the Warp amp has a few nice tricks I heard of:
1.Use an empty rhino with warp amp, the enemy probably wont mind it because its no threat but if you get into tank shocking distance you can tank shock with that and blasphemous rune (They work together) therefor giving the enemy -4.
I heard of people simply chasing a bunch of enemies like that and disabling a unit in that manner.
2.Drive it close to a close combat and screw up the enemy's ld
3.Open the window, take the rhino, throw as far as you can... Now take a dreadnought and put a warp amp on it then send it into CC, a dread that gives -3(or -4 with rune) and counts as 10models (gotta love 4th ed.) is just nasty in CC. Specially because you get to hit as if your I was 5.
The opinions I expressed here are mine alone and I will not take any blame for any damage caused to or by Rhinos that were thrown out open windows.
Damn! I just realized how good that is! It's expensive, but if executed right, could be nasty! A -4 mod to their LD! Damn dude...you could plow your way through everyone! They'd have less than a 50% chance of passing their LD check! ouhhh...I just like slaanesh even more.
You should try it out. It's really fluffy and really strategic!

<span style='color:red'>Abaddon claims Horus to have been weak, that he had a chance to slay the Emperor, and failed. But he forgets who our founder is, who his father is! Already done, except for the throwing the rhino out the window bit.Originally posted by Lord Jusen@Feb 27 2005, 03:11

Thanks for the help, I've decided to stick it on, and I can always pretend it's a.. wierd looking searchlight.
