Bear with me here as I am not a Chaos player and am going mostly from memory on this.

Anyway, I recently played a Chaos person who took Chosen models, 5 of them. he then paid to upgrade them to Terminaotrs adn gave them all the mark of t'zeentch. Next he gave them all the Bolt of Change and lastly gave them the Eye of T'zeentch. They also had lightning claws to boot.

Now I realize tht these cost about 91 points per model, but they were able to easily take out a Hive Tyrant or Carnifex per turn.

So is this legal or did he break the rules. I've red through most of the Chaos codex several times, but I am still confused. First off is are both those powers considered Major Psychics because I do not see those labeled in the book? Also, I read something in the 4th edition FAQ that you have to upgrade to an Aspiring Champion to take the T'zeentch Physic Abilities.

Let me know how this works if you guys know. It is rather powerful especially now that they strike with I4 in CC (i.e. before the Carnifex).

As far as I can tell by reading the codex, Chosen do not get the 2nd wound and S&P (you mentioned the initiative thing), although they may all take eye of tzeentch, and bolt of change.

eye of tzeentch is wargear, so has nothing to do with psychic powers.

So yes, it is legal. Just because something is legal though, doesn't mean it is right. He is putting all of his eggs in one basket. A rather unwise list.

94 points a model.

Not sure, cause you didn't explain, but it sounds like he was playing termies as rubric marines (S&P and 2 wounds), that would be cheating (or not knowing the rules..).

Hehehe. 91 points per model? That's crazy!

Yes, chosen may have term armour and lightning claws, yes they may have bolt of change and eye of tzeentch.

Unless he used them with 2 Wounds, its legal... but not very wise.

455 points! lets see... thats about 3 basic tac-squads of ten marines/csm.
The chosen can bring down max 5 marines per turn (normally 4) in shooting.
The tac squads (if only armed with bolters) brings down 1.67 chosen.
And thats just bolter fire! Throw in a plasma gun and a lascannon and you will kill those chosen pretty fast.

In cc, the chosen will kill ~9-10 marines if charging.

Two squads of an aspiring champion with power sword and 9 normal bolter marines will bring down two of the chosen if charging. Replace one of the tac-squads with a cc-oriented squad and the chosen will lose even more.

... so the chosen aint worth it in shooting _or_ close combat.

Plus if he doesn't have a land raider to carry those bad boys and you have a Defiler you can blast away at them with leisure while they struggle to move an inch.

Ok, but what if I am Orks or Tyranids? Or anything with no Shooting or high AP weapons? I guess you just need to steer clear of them. It kinda gets annoying that everyone assumes everyone else plays SM. I despise da 'umies!

Orks = Choppahs.

Nids = Mob them. If you close in with 30 gaunts and fight, they get what? 10 attacks per turn...So that's basically going to tie them up for a wee bit. Tying up 400 points of units with 150 is quite efficient. Espescially when you can get a HT in there on the charge and clean house...or take out the rest of his army when you have close to 500 points of it occupied.

Well i assummed you played chaos because you went here with the question...going into your opponents forum is good insight but we could never give you as good advice as the area of LO that plays your army, after all, were not as familiar with the units that you utilize as they are.

Ah sorry as you did say "I am not a chaos player" I guess I did not read your post carefully enough, kind of assumed you were since ya went here. :hmm:

sorry 'bout that.

Anyways, did you go to the Ork forum with this question?
