Hi peoples of the dark gods
I was wondering if u people think chaos are to powerful because i always get kicked by my friend. From my point of view they are to good at shooting (Defiler, havocs) and too good at cc (DP, possesed etc). Maybe he just gets really good rolls but i was wondering if anyone can help me out (i am going to put this in the Eldar section to).
From the most psychic enemy u will ever meet.
Eldar are always the enemy I have most trouble with. Dark Reapers, though expensive, wipe out a huge number of my marines. Put them in cover and they will easily make back three times there weight in points. Just use them to pick off nasty troops like Havocs.
Starcannons and brightlances take out dreadnaughts and defilers with little problem. And D-cannons can instant-kill a Daemon Prince.
Against CC infantry Howling Banshees and Wraithlords are incredibly difficult to believe. Wraithlords can also instant-kill a DP and can do a couple of wounds to a greater daemon. A Seer Council with Fortune is also incredibly hard to kill. Considering they can all have power weapons and re-roll their saves, they can go toe-to-toe with every CC unit, even Possessed with talons.
Though Eldar players have to think about targets a bit more than Chaos, I personally think Eldar is made to beat Marine armies, including Chaos. Provided that Chaos doesn't catch a vulnerable flank, I don't think you should have too many problems. And with Fleet of Foot, most of your troops should be able to get into at least an average position by the time the troops get there.
Speaking from my experience with Khorne, Dark Reapers maul me. They rip through Berserker squads like nothing, Starcannons and Wraithlords pose huge problems for my DP, and I don't have the shooting resources to counter them. With other Chaos armies it is easier to deal with these, but I think it should be not that hard to win with a little practice.
One of my good friends has an Eldar army, and when I played Death Gaurd (Now I play Word Bearers) He once killed off 3/4 of my army with Dark Reapers before I even hit his battle lines. Dark Reapers, like Tony said, are very good units, A vyper with a good weapon can just run untouched around the battlefield or behind a piece of scenery with some special type of Engine upgrade. It can easily do hit and runs on vehicles.
Here I am, Rock you like a Hurricane.

Dark reapers are the cure to all your marine or chaos problems.
5 of them (Even without an exarch) cost 185 if im not mistaken.
Now this 185unit shoots 15 S5 BS4 shots each turn and the marines dont get a save.
Wraithlord also rocks, normal marines can't wound him (S4 against T and if you give him the normal weapon (I think scatter laser) instead of the bright lance then he can shoot his way into the enemy, instant kill a daemon prince then fight whatever the hell he wants (If he kills a DP he already earned his points back)
Theres no way to plan playing against a chaos army. They have so much variation and can change between an unbeatable shooting army to an unbeatable close combat army in the blink of an eye. (although no army is unbeatable).
You could say that taking a wraithlord would be effective, but if the opponent has heavy weapons which they will, then your screwed.
You can also say that reapers are effective, but they are also easily killed, and they are VERY expensive.
Basically just stick to having lots of ap3 weapons and build a well rounded list. Dont bother preparing much because chaos are such a tactically open army.
