your most powerful enemy is the one that has nothing to loose
Ok, before you do anything else, look back at previous threads, I promise you'll find some topics with the same idea as this one. You'll only need to look back 2 or three pages and you'll find something for sure. Make sure you take a look at the forum rules as well. (I think they have got some around here, if not, don't worry about it.) But also look at the rulebook, from looking at their rules, you willl be able to get at least a basic understanding of their strengths and weakness's.
Check out the Chaos articles pinned at the top of this forum there should be enough info in there to help you out.

This is the advice I give everyone, but it seems to work, and nobody strangely thinks about it before going to their computer and asking people on forums. I believe, truly the best method in choosing an army is to just pick up the codex, and have a good read through it, everything, the rules, and the little stories about the backround. I would specifically read through Thousand Sons and Khorne Berzerkers. Because in the end, I think it's better to make the decision yourself instead of going for the potentially biased opinions of others.

I'd say go for the models that you like the look of the best and not care about who has the better rules, as it makes ir much more fun to collect
