i'm wondering why no one tends to use mounted hq's from what i have seen. the 50 points seems pretty good for a plus 2 atk and toughness, so why is it common for most players to not use mounted hq's ?
They're a lot of points. I think that it might make them stand out, so as they are now classified as being as large as a monsterous creature and tank. But I'm not sure on that one. And steeds prohibit and type of movement, which almost everyone takes (whether infiltration, speed, flight, deepstriking, etc.)

Abaddon claims Horus to have been weak, that he had a chance to slay the Emperor, and failed. But he forgets who our founder is, who his father is! Horus began the havoc on the Imperium on which we continue. Tonight we shall spill the blood of the emperor on his golden throne for Horus! Because in the end, CHAOS WILL PREVAIL!
Ummm ... am i missing something? i havent really been playing for that long i guess but what steeds are u talking about? the only ones i have in my codex arent 50 pts and dont give +2 att and t
Well the one for the chaos is half that amount of points and it give +1 to toughness and make you move like cavalry.
The reason I don't use it is because for the exact same amount of points I can take the D. Speed and the D. resilience gifts that gives me the same advantages without having to spill the cash for a mounted model. Also you cannot infiltrate that model, you can't put him in a transport and it really stand out if it's on a steed. Also, I'm not really sure about this (need to check) but I think you can't protect him by putting him inside a squad that is not cavalry so he can be targeted even if he's among other troops
The only steed worth taking is the juggernaut of Khorne and you need to have a Khorne oriented army for that. Steeds are not worth the points they cost IMO and for 5 more points you get to have D. flight and D. resilience wich is much better since it makes you actually move 12" every turn and you still get the opportunity to use infiltrate.
And one last reason, it's because there is no steed mounted character for warhammer 40k and if you have no talent building one from scratch from 8 different fantasy/40k models, like me, you just don't put it in your army and give your Lord the gifts that give you the exact same result while giving you more advantages.

one of my thoughts was since i'm feilding an army w/ a mark of khorne on the hq .. so i was think'n a dp w/ a mark of khorne, feel no pain, collar of khorne, darkblade, d. flight, d. mutation. d. strength, d. aura, d. essence, spiky bits and possibly furious charge, but that maxes him out .. so i think he becomes like a 210 pnt model .. even though my army is gonna be round 4500-5000 pnts i beleive, but i just found out that the juggernaught of khorne i beleive moves like cavelry and it gives d. mutation, d. resiliance, and i beleive 1 more daemonic ability. so i'm still not entirly sure *shrug*
for the tactics i was gonna move the dp behind a squad of zerkers and w/ the 12'' charge be able to go over my zerkers and use the zerkers to maintain distance between the enemy and my hq .. pretty basic, but i didn't find anything about cavlery being shot at while surrounded by troops only thing i saw was that happens if u give it d. stature.
i don't want my dp to stand out to much, so a mount might not be the best idea .. thats why i came up w that first idea for my dp.
