Played against chaos player this weekend. He had this 2 -5 unit .
all chosen aspiring champion on bikes with the following:
spike bits, master craft plasma guns, power wpns, demon armor, daemonic aura,
daemonic strength,mark of khorne,feel no pain,furious charge.
He would turbo booster so now his save is 2 invulernable then on his next turn charge and killed the unit and move to the next unit. It was not petty for me. The unit did cost him over 1000pts in 1700 pts game. Live and learn but I still thought this was a little over the top .His army was not khrone just the chosen and his prince had it and the rest was regluar stuff 2-5 SM with lasercannon, and defiler. Not much of a army but it was nasty.
I think I will be ready next time or maybe not (doh)
Does sound very cheesy indeed, now you said plasmaguns, I believe you mean plasmapistol instead.
A unit of GK would be handy when equipped with psycannons, otherwise I would try to get as many heavybolters into it.
Against anything bikey I would recommend placing your troops with difficult terrain between you, this could blow him up, also be sure to have your own plasma rifles and such. If you play Imperial get a Vindicare Assassin (who can do a shot which ignores Invulnerable saves).
The reason you had trouble with the squad is probably because it's illegal. It looks to me like he took about 98ish points of wargear for each model, when the max allowed for non-Lords is 75 points, 50 of which may be daemonic gifts. Additionally, if it was 5 models in the unit and cost over 1000 points, then they were majorly illegal. He would need around 130 points of upgrades per model to hit that mark, which would be way illegal. At 98 points of upgrades though, he could really just drop a few things (mastercraft plasma guns would drop 20, dropping spiky bits would put him right at 75) to make the squad legal, and you'd still be facing about the same problems in CC.
The best way to deal with squads like this, depending on the army, is to throw a sacrificial, cheap but high wound count squad against them, and move the rest of the army away, then once combat is resolved, blast him. Additionally, if you have any models that can hit & run, you can withdraw from combat on his combat phase and then blast him with low-AP weaponry.
Yea so if you're Imperial/Witch Hunters take some Seraphim, run them up close, get in combat on his turn, bounce out and shoot him to hell. If you're chaos yourself then you want raptors.
