I play chaos mainly, i have had nothing but trouble with demonic princes. i roll pourly on shooting, and i dont want to field a prince of my own. anyway, what are the best tactics against a demonic prince with a glaive and collar of khorne?
lascannon helps a lot, chaos lord with darkblade and furiouscharge.
* Shoot it with heavy weaponry.
* It has to move towards the nearest model.. Use cheap, disposable units (swarms are ideal) to lure it off while the rest of your army moves into better positions from which to blast it apart with heavy weapons.
* If you have to fight it in close combat, try and field a strength 10 weapon (not always possible).. unless he gives it an expensive rune it can still be instant-killed. A dreadnought is a good plan, but make sure you support it because, as a monstrous creature, the lord will make short work of it. Sometimes even this isn't fatal, however, as the cost of such a daemon prince might easily outstrip that of a dreadnought.
A havoc squad with four lascannons should do the trick. You should take at least six of them, more if your opponent is very shooty. To be sure, give the squad infiltrate, so that they can deploy after the prince, ensuring clear line of sight from turn 1.
Ave Dominus Nox!
First of all, are all of your models painted, at least semi-decently based on your own skill? This helps a lot with rolls (it's the curse of the unpainted models that brings most people down).
Then, on top of that, what is your army as it is now? What do you have? What point size games? And why not try fielding your own Prince? Oh, and what sort of Chaos do you play? All of this really factors into it.
Since you play a CSM army an Aspiring Champion with a Power Fist hidden in a squad with many CSM in it (at least 15) should do the trick. Give that squad 2 meltaguns, you will be able to fire them before you charge him (if you get that chance), that's a good chance to make two wounds before getting in CC. The Counter Attack veteran skill could be useful too. Give your AC Daemonic Mutation if you want to up his attacks.Originally Posted by chaosspaceface
The movement of a Daemon Prince with a Glaive is pretty obvious, he must charge the nearest ennemy unit since Blood Frenzy take him automatically. Put that CC squad in his way and he will have to charge it if it's the nearest. If you want to be sure to deploy it last and just in front of him make it an infiltrating squad. Put it 18" away from the Daemon Prince then if you get first turn you have a good chance to wound him on turn one with your meltaguns, then he will have to charge you and your power fist should be able to finish him off. If you start after your opponent he will have to charge you on turn one and then he will be effectively out of the game until he's dead or until he go through that squad (count at least 2 turns).
Remember that you can give that squad 2 veteran skills if you don't give him any Chaos Mark (including the Mark of Chaos Undivided), so you could give that squad of 15 CSM the Counter Attack and the Infiltration veteran skills... Yes it make a 333 pts squad but it will effectively take out that Daemon Prince you fear and if it survive the encounter it will probably be able to take out some more unit therefore making back its points.
And yes of course lascannon squads, tactical squads with any weapon with S8 and above and squads with special weapons in it.
My Daemon Prince either die from heavy weapon/special weapon fire or because of a power weapon/fist.

hrmmm one of the oddities with a khornate daemon prince is that its not only very offensive with the berserker glaive but one can also direct all other points towards defensive measures making a khornate daemon prince VERY survivable. he can easily have a +2 armor save and finally a +4 invulnerable save, an +4 feel no pain save after he fails the armor/invulnerable. this leaves us with a T5 or possible a T6(5) unit with a very solid set of saves. a S10 weapon with ether a low AP or ignoreing saves in CC is the best way to go or else you end up peppering him with so much laz cannon fire you'll end up forgetting about what else his army has to offer. a daemon prince with the glaive feel no pain and daemonic essence can take about 29 lazcannon shots on average before dropping. you can shoot him while in CC so that means 29 shots before he reaches your front lines. even if your figs are painted with the odds stacked like this its probably not good to shoot the daemon prince. knowing what legion you play would really help with a counter strategy. oh an dI guess exactly what else the D prince had as well as there might be some slight changes depending on what things hes decided to take.
Take a huge squad of nurglings. Repeat. Repeat. Then, get these nurglings up to it as fast as you can so the prince will have to face them first, and this will take some time! While that combat's being fought I recommend you run around the rest of the board cleaning up his (probably) under-prepared units, by the time the prince is out of combat he'll be the only thing left! Then be sure to have a strong firing base to take it down.

i play undivided. i usually field a squad of havocs with 2ml 2ac 6 or 8 men strong. my regular squad of undivided is a 10 man with 2 meltas an asp champ with a pf and an ever changing veteran skill. sometimes a squad of 6 or 8 terms to rac 2 pf. a term lord with pf and cb demrune demstr bionics all changing, or a lord on a bike with 4 hounds(thats a fun lord to play with). sometimes a lieutenant. usually a squad of 8 raptors with 2 flamers. i need for lascannons me thinks. usualy 1500 point games or 1000 or 2000. sometimes a squad of bolter guys, just depends.
nurglings might work if the D prince doesnt have strength of 6 same with horrers only now you wont need something with the mark of nurgle to use them they can be summoned to one of your undevided squads.
another option is to counter strike with daemonettes. if he has feel no pain you'll probably need 12 of them to feel good about them plus the squad that the d prince charges though.
if daemons aren't your thing though a counter attacking dred would work as well. if I think of anything esle that would work Ill give you a holla.
