both are pretty cool, i like the color schemes(red fetish) and they both have good fluff, though i am curious as to Lorgar's early years, but thats not the point.
from a tactical standpoint, i really dont care, i've played 3 games of Fantasy skirmish, and we probably played wrong, so that doesnt matter, though i do like the idea of chopping heads of in a blind fury.
they both look really cool, but from a price standpoint is there a signifigant difference? i think the World Eaters are $35 for ten(correct me if i'm wrong) and Word Bearers are regular marines which are $28 for eight, which i am sure of, but with how you should play each, counting in tanks and such, is there a big gap? like 5 dollars doesnt really bother me, but 20 does.
any advice would be most welcome, and i'll be checking and replying a lot now because
I'M OUT OF SCHOOL!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! WHAT NOW YOU EVIL TEACHERS!?!?!?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
The price differentiation is more complex than that.. since world eaters cost more points, you're likely to have fewer of them. Plan a list and work out what you need to buy.
My question would be.. do you like tactics? If yes, word bearers, if no, world eaters.
Okay, I have a personal grudge against the khorne guys, they're powerful, but have a very limited scope.. half the time they're completely uncontrollable, and since they only excell in CC there's often little you can do save charge anyway.
Word bearers can be played in two ways, cheesy and fluffy.. If cheesy, you take loads of basic chaos marines and simply swamp your opponent. If fluffy, you take loads of daemons.. Daemons are very cool units, they're unpredictable, and sometimes they will go horribly wrong, but they certainly add a lot of the fun to the game, and the fact that it's an undivided army leaves you enough scope for flexibility to do your own thing in the background. Personally, I'd go with them.
That, and you have funky chaplain-type-dudes..
well, at the moment, i'm just buying a box of either the World Eaters or the regular marines.
by the way, does the World Eaters' box have a mutation sprue? that could be a deal breaker
in the future, i plan to have a bike squad or two, and maybe a tank, but i'm not sure.
tactics,tactics,tactics..hmmmmmm...i think the idea of charging into battle in blind fury is good, but i'm not gonna decide yet
Personally, and I like Undivided (that's what I run), I would go with Wordbearers. They get the one of the best, all-around armies, they can use chaplains (yay!), and they have that monster of a weapon (ominous music here) the ACCURSED CROZIUS (maniacal laughter here)! However, they don't really like to work with armies dedicated to any one god. They are very strict about the worship of all the gods. So you might find it hard to get the idea of Berzerkers working with them past hardcore players and some tournament hosts (stodgy bastards the whole lot of them). If it were me, you would be able to, since I'm a very generous host. But once I get down to business, I expect the terms of the battle to be followed and no cheating or arguing.
I think you should go with word bearers because:
A) The chaos marines box comes with a mutation sprue, the world eaters don't (i think)
Basic chaos marines are easier to convert and are all around better models
C) the Word Bearers get to use hordes upon hordes of daemons.
D) They get the Dark Apostles or Dark Chaplains, which get the accursed crozius which is awesome.
E) Everyone plays world eaters and not many play word bearers.
That pretty much sums it up.

Oh you will, until someone simply moves a squad of things they can't realistically catch (jump troops etc) around their flank, and you have to watch your guys turning and tearing off because they're too stupid to attack anything but the nearest targets.Originally Posted by sonofslaanesh
I've seen it happen, it's hillarious. People spend way too much on those talismans of burning blood which a sensible player can just exploit.
Word bearers do make for a good close combat army.. In one of my games, a 6 strong squad of daemonettes with a bit of luck on their side took out some genestealers, space marine bikers and a hive tyrant single handedly.. not bad for 90 points. In a word bearers army you can potentially multiply that by.. ooh.. however many squads you can fit in your army!
Take some bikers, raptors or even just a rhino rush squad as icon droppers, and you've pretty much got it sorted.
World Eaters get sooooooooo boring after a while. I collected them for years and got up to around 8k they just lose thier flavor after a while... every game will be the same

hmmmm...i can honestly say that i've never senn such a one sided opinion, and i dont even think any of you are high or drunk, unlike my damn people! i think i'll go with Word Bearers, for the following reasons:
1. there are soooooooo many WE armies that its ridiculous
2. i have some great ideas for possessed marines and mutations, which arent very "khornate" if you will, and i have some ancient daemonattes i can use, but they are damn ugly things
3. i like the idea of being called 'Dark Apostle Yaziro'
4. they're just so fluffy, and they have room for more, its amazing
thanks a bunch for the help, and i just gotta say:
