My sister has nothing but a squad of 8 chaos space marines... we're doing a 4-player battle, me (Tyranids) and her vs Witch Hunters, 1000 points on a side, so we split it up 500-500 and in order to make that point value she made the marines possessed and gave them the Mark of Tzeench, made them all Sorcerors and gave them all Gift of Chaos. So, once they get into hand-to-hand we're looking at up to 8 chaos spawns per turn!
Needless to say, she doesn't have 8 chaos spawn models (or any for that matter)... so, when it comes to spawn proxies, what do you guys recommend? Are chaos spawns supposed to be on a normal marine-sized base? I'd prefer not to use a hormagaunt or something because then it might get confusing ("No, these hormagaunts are real, *those* hormagaunts are chaos spawn...!").
PS: any comments on her choice of unit? In addition to Gift of Chaos they have a bolt pistol + close combat weapon, she gave them all Daemonic Mutation, and the Aspiring Champion has Daemonic Resilience, Daemonic Strength, Daemonic Mutation and a power sword.
Chaos spawns are based on 40mm Round bases, so your cheapest (and quickest) method for proxying in a small game is to cut out appropritly sized bits of card. If its a friendly game, and your sis is just starting out then I shoudn't think anyone will have a problem with this.
If you actually want to make spawn cheaply, just use green stuff - they're meant to be twisted blobs of blood and organs anyway, so you can be as messy as you want with them.
The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people are awesome and can kick your ass.

You could use the "Chaos Spawn of Mashaf" miniature model, it's 28 mm, it look awesome and different, you could fit it on a 40 mm base without trouble and it's around 6$. Check the Reaper Miniature model range, the "Devourer of Mashaf" could also make a really nice Chaos Spawn and it's around 10$.
Just google those names or reaper miniatures and you'll find a lot of web site selling those.

If you want something really odd, stick a blob of wet green stuff in the middle of a base and push loadsa arms and legs and stuff in. That often leads to something weird....

As stated chaos spawns are based on 40mm Round bases. If the game is coming up soon and you don't want to just substitute a model then go through your bits box and glue a bunch of stuff together.

They're likely to be accepted by opponents as they're precisely the 'right' size.
And afaik, they may be used to proxy *any* WH Beastie without a ranged attack.
