i've been play testing Night Lords recently just to get the feel before i buy some units.
today i went to the local Comic shop and bought the box of raptors, 1 blister of raptor with assault weapon, and 1 blister of a normal raptor.
it equals to a squad of 7 with 2 melta guns, 4 with bp+ccw, and a champ with lightning claws.
and might i say, these models are stunning. the detail, the different actions, they even look scary.
i do think a squad of raptors is one of the best looking squads int he game.
good job GW.
first time in a while i didn't mind spending $60 on 7 models lol.
I also love raptors. As a NL player your going to want a second squad eventually. In my Annihilation Angels (DIY using NL rules) I have one squad with meltas the other with flamers. Backed up by bikes and infiltrating marines. They work great. Just remember if you putting a lord with a squad, always have the lord leave the squad before they both charge so you can get the "hit and run" benefits of the raptors. O and I always give my raptors skills. Infiltrate and/or furious charge work wonders.
oh yes, i have my army posted. infiltrate and furious charge are wonderful for first turn charges and sweeping advances.Originally Posted by numberofthebeastxxx
i like doing a pincer attack. my army is setup to be broke in half and attack at different angles.
im a raptor fantic ive got like 20 i think 3 flamer 2 lighitng claws 2 melta bombs all have furious charge. there possibly my favrouite anti-flanking unit ever
Try making your posts a little more useful. Why are they your favourite? What makes them so great at anti-flanking? IMO they're more offensive, but I can't use them as I play Emperor's Children.
I liked the older ones. Their wings looked better IMO.

i use 2 squads of 7, furious charge, infiltrate, 2 meltas, nicely tooled up champ.
when you infiltrate, you have to setup 18" away from the nearest enemy, or 12" in they don't have LOS of you. raptors move 12" and assault 6"= first turn charge. but don't forget to shoot those meltas first.
ok, 7 raptors, 2 meltas, champ with lightning claws. if they assault...
thats 2x S8 AP 1 shots, 16x WS4 S5 I5 attacks and 4x WS4 S5 I5 lightning claw attacks and your enemy gets -1LD.
then its your opponents turn, at the end of his turn, you break them off 3D6" and chrage again next turn if you wish.
if a raptor squad charges with my lord, thats 5x WS5 S5 I6 lightning claw attacks with another -1LD penalty.
thats combat, don't forget, they can take 3 assault weapons to pop tanks. if someone has a tak out there your gonna get side armor shots. if they setup a lil ways away from the table edge, the rear armor is all yours.
this is what my squads look like...
+2x Melta Gun
I like raptors too, because they look very cool and have the ability to hit hard and fast. Haven't play-tested it yet, but it looks good on paper.
2 raptors w/ bolt pistol and CCW
2 raptors w/ flamer
1 champion w/ power fist, bolt pistol, and daemonic mutation
215 pts for the squad
The two 2 flamers can do a rediculous amount of damage to large infantry squads (with a 12" move, they can really take advantage of flamers), and a champion with 5 S8 attacks on the charge means the squad is still a large threat to vehicles and heavily armored troops. I like that it fits in with the concept of a small group of elite soldiers able to inflict massive casualties and destruction disproportionate to their size. And, with their daemonic visage, they're perfect for breaking units of light infantry like orks and imperial guardsman after the flamers decimate their ranks. All for only around 200 pts.

but how can you pass up the champ with lightning claws???? its such a magnificant model.
but i have champs with power fists also, i use the power fist from a SM assault squad sprue, its the right arm and its pointing.
I use the regular champ with lightning claws model, but replace the right arm with a bolt pistol arm. I figure lightning claws and power fists pretty much look the same, and most of the pointing power fists look like lightning claws anyway, so it shouldn't be a big deal. That way I get to use the very cool-looking model and don't have to adapt components.Originally Posted by Black Katalyst
