I play iron warriors, and so far i just have the an hq, 2 squads, rhino, 4 terminators and a defiler. Im quite new, and haven't played many armys so i dont really know wat i should get next. I usually face dark eldar and i was interested if a fast attacking unit might help me out in assaults. The hard time i get is that my freind [Dark Eldar] uses the talos and a raider with an hq squad to assault me, i usualy manage to take out ether one with me hq and the troops and those get shot after loosing some wounds in the close combat and die.... so im usualy left with a rhino and some units and he still has his assaulting unit that usualy kills me because IW suck at close combat.... so i was thinking of getting something to strike him while i get the big guns in position, so wat should i get??
I heard raptors are good and bikes are quite good 2, but i didn;t see them in action so i dont really know wat i need. If Fast attack is something u thing that is not nessisary for IW plz tell me wat is... cuz im fed up with loosing assualts.
The balance is keeping your army fluffy in the same context, if you're going to bother...
Raptors don't seem very Iron Warrior-esque.
I'd go for a 3 man bike squad with a beefy asp champ to be my fast attack (I play IW too)...Just enough to run up to my target and pound the hell out of it...Surgical strikes in reality..I generally reserve any fast attacking to be devoted entirely to anti-artillery on stuff that is problematic (Eg : My bassy just died) otherwise they are purely on defense.
I use bikers occasionally in my Emperor's Children force, and trust me, them don't tend to make much difference. Not as effective as Raptors for their points. Raptors are an offensive unit rather than a defensive unit so take the fight to the enemy before they get to your lines.
As for getting round the fluff issue, there's nothing to say that Iron Warriors couldn't start creating devices giving flight to their warriors- Raptors can still have the MoCU, with their krak grenades they are specialist saboteurs who are there to wreck fortifications from the inside. Just the Iron Warriors being inventive.
Yes, always choose raptors over bikers - they can use two weapons as they don't need to hold the bike, which means you can really beef up the AC. Also, they can have meltaguns and flamers, like bikers can have meltaguns, yet it doesn't diminish their ability like bikes, and they can easily get close to use them. While the bikes turbo-boosters is useful, I'd still say raptors - they're much nicer models as well.
The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people are awesome and can kick your ass.
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left."
Not to mention visage and the fact that bikers increased T wount help when they get agonised......
Your better with raptors IMO, theres also a bit on the debate in the marine section on general jump pack vs bikes.
Ask not a question of the eldar, for they will give you three answers all of which are true and horrifying to know.

i just started a small chaos army myself.. I'm enjoying my bikers a hell of a lot, i feild a 3 man squad with 2 meltaguns, and give them tankhunters.. put a nasty asp champ in there for your assaults too, never hurts.
my favorite tactic is to boost them in front of enemy shock troops and invite them to assault the effective T5 marines with 3+ invulnerable saves, they charge, don't kill anything, and probably take a casualty or two at the hands of my champ, and hopefully get run down by my 3d6 to pursue.. not such a good idea when you're looking at agonizers though..
before I added fast attack though I'd get a bassilisk and then flesh out your fast attack options, you may also want to consider giving your HQ a beefy chosen bodyguard for some more CC punch
No-one likes that kind of unit really, unless you play no-brainer khorne or have large battles (ie 2000 points+) as they just become too expensive. Not saying that chosen are bad, it just makes more sense to put a Lord/Lieutenant with a CC CSM squad in a rhino.Originally Posted by prettyflywhiteguy
Turbo-boost is pretty cool, but after a while it doesnt seem to be as effective as there is always that unit you forget about and they end up dying in hilariously tragic ways anyway. Most people are too smart to chuck their best CC units at a tiny squad of ub3r fast bikes and if they do this unit will probably kill quite a few of those bikes-T5 isn't that much higher that T4 and there is little different to the rank and file as to whether yu have an invulnerable save or not. It's still power armour, the most rediculously fabricated armour, vulnerable only to the almighty Imperial Guard Flashlight.
