Hi, i am playing a freind who, EVERY time he is the attacker puts his 1500 points worth of space wolfs in drop pods, i am choas player.
when playing him in a sabatage game, and i am the defender and therefore the game is decided on 1 objective which he will drop move then lightly his whole army very close to !!!! it is so frustrating!!!!
Any tips on what leigon Ect are good against drop pods?
I was thinking maybe lots of bikes, or tons of termies.
Anyone got any advice
Anything that's uber-choppy. Something like Khorne would be good here, as if he's on top of you and his objective quickly you don't want to be out-chopped. Termies would be good but then he would start to outnumber you, not always the best thing to do.
If you can have obliterators take one full sqaud of them, also plasmaguns are your friend in this case, since he drops into your lines, his firng is severley weakened as his his ability to charge.
Well, the drop pods themselves shouldn't be a problem. They're only armour 10, so you should be able to kill them with boltguns - if they're forge world pods, then they aren't a threat themselves as they have no weapons.
As for everything that comes out of them, well, you have the first turn to get into a decent position to take on the enemy, but don't spread your units around the board - they'll get caught in clumps by the drop pods and be flattened.
He's not going to be able to assault when he drops - make sure you have mobile units like bikes, raptors and a flying daemon prince to move close to the drop pods if they DS far away from you. Also, try and force him to deepstrike his pods close to the edge of the table - move powerful units and numerous units into positions where he can't safely put a pod without ending up in the middle of a tedious or unwinnable combat. Make it so the only clear spaces are on the edge of the board, so if the pods scatter he'll lose a squad.
Also, defilers will be good - the tiny space that the squad will be crammed in after jumping out of the pod will mean heavy casualties from an ordnance template.
Terminators aren't such a good idea, they'll get mobbed by multiple pods and killed. A good legion most likely will be something like night lords, alpha legion, with cheap mobs that can further delay units out of pods and speedy units that can assault the pods passengers where they stand.
All in all, the major disadvantage is that they can't move or assault when the drop pods hit - use their lack of mobility to your advantage and assault them or the first turn, or even blow up their dreadnoughts or devastators(long fangs) and then run away - they won't have any transport vehicles or heavy armour so they'll be very slow and have nothing to destroy your vehicles - use them to control the field - just DON'T let them charge, or you'll get torn to pieces.
The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people are awesome and can kick your ass.

thanks for all the advice !
However in the new space marine codex then drop pods count as oppened top meaning that you can charge from them in the turn you land (page 35 on codex sapce marine)
As for my opanent not having anything to take out armour, he takes 2 X dreads and lots of melta guns and termies so.... prob not take a difiler or dread!
The key here is lots of plasma and lots of mobility. Flank him with bikes or raptors while dishing out the pain with oblits, dread, troops support, havocs, defilers, etc. That's what I would do anyway...
This is exactly what I was going to say. The best way to foil drop pods is to have something that can get around the pod (as it is best used to block LOS on the drop) and blow away the apponent. Bikers would be my choice as they have the necessary maneuverability to get around the pod and the ability to both shoot the offending marines and assault in the same turn.Originally Posted by numberofthebeastxxx

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
If you check page 21 of the SM codex you'll see that they may NOT move or assault after disembarking from the droppords.
Also don't forget about plasmacannon's on your dreadnoughts.
If you dont wanna go with khorne, you could go with nurgle... they have D. Resiliance on all of their troops, and nurgles rot, which will kill stuff just from you sitting there... not to mention the Manreaper... :drools: Or acid swords or whatever they are.

Had Tzeentch before I knew how to play :P
Drop Pods are AV12, not 10 as Lordofchange thought, so bolters won't do anything to them. But that's okay since you don't really need to blow them up anyway, they only have a Stormbolter with BS2. Plus, if you do destroy them then the wreckage may afford his guys cover saves.
The others have pretty much covered it but I want to make mention of unit deployment. A good tactic for Drop Pod armies is to isolate a single unit or groups of units and overwhelming them before turning around and having a go at what's left of the enemy while the next wave of Drop Pods deploys. So try not to give him room to split your army or isolate your more powerful units.
