The question is obvious enough. With all the wondrous toys around, it's really tempting to spend loads of points on lavishing your Lord with all sorts of expensive wargear. How many points is an ideal max in a 1500-point game? 2000-points?
all my generals are roughly 10% of the games points.
1500= 150 point lord
2000- 200 point lord
but it can vary army to army, it also depends on the roles you give him.
is he fire support with a kai gun??
is he rushing up on a bike and a ether lance?
is he in a rhino with some possessed ready to tear things up in cc?
Well a daemon prince is supposed to be modelled like one... so he can't be on a bike, nor in a rhino. however i would agree the one-tenth idea is a good estimiate. You average daemon prince is a CC nightmare against any army. Give him the dread axe and he ignores both armor saves and invul saves since he's monsterous and has the daemon weapons special rules.
I try to always keep them around 150, definitely below 200 for my liking. He's a bullet magnet anyway, i linke the daemonic stature, aura, armor with the dread axe combo. Occassionally add in daemonic flight somewhere to get him into CC quick with a rhino squad or raptor squad keeping up with him. I also seldom use them since my lords work fine, and I like the lord hopping out of a rhino with an ether lance personally... just me though
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
Effectively he COULD be on a bike - a model with daemonic stature may not have a bike, not necessarily a model that is counted as a daemon prince because it has more than 50pts of daemonic gifts.
As for me, for a thousand sons prince, i never take one in less than 1,500 points, apart from once when i felt reaaaally sadistic and took one in 750, just to show some kid who said "daemon princes are crap, my storm troopers will rip it apart in combat". Needless to say, he ate the entire guard army unassissted.
I usually try to make my princes 180-200 points as once i get going with him i try to make him really scary. But unfortunately, i have to say, i've begun to lose faith - he never really DOES anything, i prefer to tag-team with my lord on daemonic steed and Lord of Change. But if I do take him, he always has speed or flight, a dark blade, and gift of chaos, and of course daemonic aura. And sometimes that's enough for a prince.
The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people are awesome and can kick your ass.
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left."
I'm gonna agree with Black Katalyst's assesment. Give or take 10-20pts if necessary.
How is this for a Daemon Prince then:
DP of Slaanesh:
Sorcerer Lord w/ Mark of Slaanesh, 3 Minor Slaanesh Powers (hoping for Siren), Daemonic Stature, Daemonic Flight, Combat Drugs, Daemonic Strength, Daemonic Mutation/
Total Cost: 203 points.
Well tecnicaly, a Daemon Prince is a lord with demonic stature or over 50 points of demonic gifts. The only time you need to use the daemon prince model is when you have demonic stature.
There once was a Lord named Vlad,
Who's fighting skillz really were mad.
He killed and he maimed,
He spilled blood in Khorne's name.
And the fact that he's legal makes me glad
(special thanks to Uriel Zarium for the last line/touching it up)
He carries a Great Weapon. So he attacks as Strength 8.
To do what you want to do would either need a PF (bad idea), Strength, a Dark Blade, and Furious Charge (1 hit-wonder), etc. Stature means WS 6 (7 with Drugs) so enemies like Guard now need 5 to hit me, and the Doom Siren means I basically strike in initiative order no matter what. Warp Scream is an effective +1 initiative, which works for me.
