I've talked to several people on line about tactics againt the Eldar and haven't gotten much help.
My friend who I play frequently uses (maxed out squads numbers~)
Two skimmers loaded with fire dragons and a seer group or banshees(
If not in vechicle, seer group or banshees
two Guardians squads, with platforms
The weapons dont matter, they're all nasty.
His alternative one (which took me out third turn):
Two skimmers loaded with fire dragons and a seer group
Two black guardian groups, on led by Avatar
3 individual skimmer bikes
I am thinking... Melta guns and oblitertors?
What army do you play? What are your options? Give us some more details so we can help you...
What i do against eldar, is... just keep runing up the board at them while shooting.... Seers are annoying, so I do my best to deal with them, however that is not an easy task... Lascannons are good, meltas, and plasma would b good. You could either go CC crazy or shooty crazy against eldar, since the forces of Chaos are so versitile...
Give us more about your army, and we will be able to help. in more detail.
You Can't Stop the Eighp
Had Tzeentch before I knew how to play :P
i play chaos and ulthwe eldar so i think i can give some good pointers.
-falcons are the hardest tanks to kill in the game period. dumping loads of fire power into them will let the rest of his army aive.
-vypers on the other hand can go down easy from bolter fire. they are open toped and have very low armor.
-guardians will bite it HARD to an infiltrating havok squad of 4 heavy bolters.
-Avatars only have a 5+ inv save, so enough shooting he'll drop, but if it gets into combat, use powerfists for an easy wound
-banshees should be (hopfully screened by a dreadnaught, they have S3 and the exarch is only S5, so a dred should tie them up for a while
-DO NOT TAKE OBLITERATORS!! all eldar weanpons worth taking are AP2
-if used properly, predators should put a hurt on eldar, TL lascannon and heavy bolters should do the trick
Eldar generally let you come to them, and will be dominating the mouvement phase to pick is fights, so trying the CC have approche wight be a bad Idea.
I would strongly suggest using infiltrators and some rhinos, and possibly hidden raptors, this will allow you to be on even grounds for speed, and might even allow you to catch some of is weaker units unaware.
use terrain to full effect, try to give good peices to hide your transports behind tot he first turn, move out and pop smokes
Nurgle as a good succes against eldar, as the T5 will render banshees alomst useless in combat (6s to wound)
go after the council if he abuses the guide/augment combo.
the tanks can wait, they generally don't have much of an impact as they are lightly armed, go for vypers as they fall easely, and guardians can be delt with bolters.
I also play Eldar. Of the advice above, the dreadnaughter and the infiltrating Heavy Bolters are things i've seen used against me to perfection. I wouldn't bother with melta weapons because you generally don't need the extra D6 vs Eldar vehicles. Vypers are target priority, unless you get first turn, if you do shoot the transports and ignore everything else, especially since once their moving, a smart Eldar player only allows you to get glancing hits.
Raptors with Flamer work well also. Remember flamers ignore cover saves... and conceal gives a reroll able cover save which is ignored. Plus most Eldar have 5+ or 4+ armor. Vs flamers that won't hold up long at all. 3 Flamers in a Raptor Squad will kill most Eldar squads, Aspect Warriors etc.
Scorpions can trade blow for blow with any of your assault troops or you CSM. Their 3+ save and extra attacks mean more dead marines for you, engage with a unit with a Champion led by an aspiring champion both with power weapons. Scorpions can't have any kind of power weapon so you'll always get your save.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
This is what I got so far (1500 Base points, Easily 2000-2500):
Going with Black Legion Theme
-HQ Daemon Prince
-20 or so Marines
-8 Khorne Berserkers
The Eldar are a mixed bag, if played well they can be damaging and if you play like me you will have an easy time. Take out Brightlances, Starcannons and the Falcon with the Fire Dragons as they kill CSM with ease.
"They say the Darkness consumes you. They don't say what happens after It's done."
Seems solid. You have a lot of terminators. I suggest deep striking them so as to get some rear shots on his skimmers and to keep them out of star cannon fire until they can make an impact.Originally Posted by HeraldOfChaos
Your defiler is good, give it indirect fire. That will enable it to hit any unit, even without line of sight. Remember that it fires ordonance, so if you can penetrate one of his transports you might completely destroy it and the group it transports. Don't count on it though, and I suggest you only shoot at his skimmers with the defiler if they have not moved over 6". If he uses max squad sizes you have some really juicy targets, banshees and scorps are given. Guardians might be worth it, and the seer council is a good target as well. Sure they will make a lot of their rerollable saves, but strength 8 means that any wound suffered is a dead model.
If I were you I would make his Fire Dragons my top priority. You have some very strong and expensive models: Terminators, raptors, bikers. All of these are perfect targets for Fire Dragons. There is no way a group of fire dragons can shoot at one of those units without making their points back two or three times. As soon as these guys leave their transport you must assault them. They will die horribly to any assault you make.
The seer council is always problematic. The amount of damage they can soak up is truly amazing. What is not amazing, however, is their toughnes and number of attacks. Small arms fire works well, just as your berzerkers will do fine (give your champions mutation and power fist and any unsaved wound is a dead model). One of the most demoralizing things is when a seer council starts hurling mind wars around. A seer council can take our your lord, aspiring champs, terminators etc at a frightening rate. Assault them and they will not be able to use mind war. Oh and if you play this guy regularly he will probably have that thingy that cuts any daemon or daemon princes weapon skill in half. Might want to assault something else with your daemons and let regular marines and their mutation/powerfist champ deal witht he council.
My overall advice for you, not specifically against eldar, is to include more regular marines. Possesed, terminators, raptors, bikers, berzerkers. All of them good units, but you have soo many points tied up in them. Maybe lose one squad and take two extra squads of marines. Get some rhinos (extra armor and smoke launchers) so they have a chance of keeping up with your faster units.
Is there any way to bypass a Banshee Mask?
Only thing I know that does is Combat drugs always strike first.
