I have had my rant about heavy weapons, etc., so thought I would stump up what I am actually using at the moment, dependent on points per game. This is just for private games, but I do not think I have transgressed any of the published rules. If you know different, let me know!
MoN, Plague sword, power fist, Nurgling infest., Nurgle's Rot, Blight grenades, personal icon
4x CSM and 2 asp ch, 2 melta guns, ch with Plague Banner, ch with power weapon
MoN, Manreaper, Nurgling infest., Daemon strength, Nurgle's Rot, bolter
HVY SUPPORT - 3 Dreadnoughts
No 1 "Tsetse" MoN, multi-melta, Plague carrier, Daemonic and Parasitic Possession and Mutated Hull
No 2 "Putrix" MoN, plasma cannon, Plague Carrier, D nd PP, MH
No 3 "Tetanus" MoN, 2 CCW, Plague carrier, etc
Squad 1 - 6x CSM and asp ch, MoN, Infiltrators, Tank Hunters, 2 plasma guns, unit icon, asp ch with plasma psitol and CCW
Squad 2 - 6x CSM and asp ch, MoN, Infiltrators, Tank Hunters, 2 plasma guns, unit icon
Squad 3 - 6x CSM and asp ch, MoN, plasma gun, flamer, unit icon
Plaguebearers 1 (7 daemons) - 112 pts
Plaguebearers 2 (7 daemons) - 112 pts
Nurgling pack - 7 bases - 70 pts
This is what I have built/ converted/ painted so far. It is adaptable and, with various upgrades, can give me up to 2000 pts.
Just a couple of questions.
1) What would people recommend for taking it out to 2500 pts?
2) I am currently building a sorcerer figure as a HQ alternative. Does anyone out there actually use a Nurgle sorcerer in 40K?
As you can see, NO heavy weapons and NO transport. WE WALK!
TACTICS - keep moving, keep firing and close quickly against most opponents. Charge when in range. Hang back and keep shooting to limit numbers in horde armies, then charge.
My experience is that it can take on all comers. Just watch your opponent's face drop in infiltrate scenarios when you infiltrate and get first turn with your plasma gun squads! (What troublesome Basilisk with its pinning ability?)
I don't see a reason for both the Plague sword and the Power Fist on the Lord. Seems to me like you're paying 25 points for a weapon that you might use. Care to elaborate?
The Leiu. is illegal. Drop the strength and he'll be legal again.
You seem to spend alot of points on your Dreads - do you find that all the extra upgrades increase it's survivability? Also - about the Tsetse; EQ? Or just know alot about flies? (Curious)
Troops are illegal. Can't have two veteran skills and a Mark. Only unmarked units can have more than one vet. skill. Otherwise, troops choices looks solid.
I'm really interested in the three dreads - how heavily converted are they? Have pics somewhere?
I'm suprised that you didn't make your squads 7 men strong for the favored number. also, for 2500 pts, you could throw in some elites or try to daemonic gifts to your asp champs.
why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly
use those daemonic gifts man, its a crime not to.
he did make them the favored number 6 marines and an aspiring champ
I'm just going to jump on Caluin's post. :- )
He touched all the bases, and I've only a few comments. My Lord takes a Dreadaxe and PFist combo in big lists.Originally Posted by Caluin
Our reasons are probably similar: Variable targets.
Both Sword and Axe only benefit vs Units with Wounds.I'd drop Infestation and swap DStrength for DMutation. The Leiu. is illegal. Drop the strength and he'll be legal again. And Infiltrate is your only nod to Mobility in this list.Troops are illegal. Can't have two veteran skills and a Mark.I'm curious, also.I'm really interested in the three dreads - how heavily converted are they?
Your Lieutenant is also illegal as he as 2, 2 handed weapons (bolter and manreaper)
IMO the plague sword is a waste of points, a dark blade can do a better job than both weapons your lord for cheaper.
A retenue of chosen is only worth taking in terminator armour IMO, your are paying for expensive plague marines at this point.
200 pts dreads? you might want to drop them in value they eat up alot of points, and will attract too much fire this way (13 armour for somthing that's worth that much is worth shooting at!)
Daemonic mutation is a much better way to add attacks on lord or lieutenant ( cheaper and more effect tive than D6 S3 attacks)
Can't have 2 veteran skills on units (infiltrate and tank hunter) infiltrate is all you need.
Also go for units of 7 or 14 free Aspiring champions is points to invest elsewhere.
Try to uniformise your special weapon in the squads, like 2 plasmaguns or 2 flamers etc, this will aloow your units to fill more specific roles, and get more out of them at the same time.
Thanks for the replies.
1) I will read the Codex more fully in future and drop the illegalities!
2) I take the Plague sword and power fist, as was pointed out, for the variety of opponents possible - I do like both belt and braces and habitually carry string in my pocket!
3) The lieutenant does not use both the bolter and Manreaper simultaneously. I like to think of him slinging/ dropping the one while he hacks/ shoots with the other.
4) People seem interested in the dreadnoughts. I find that the points can pay for themselves in a couple of ways:
a) the up front way I play means I need the extra survivability;
b) I tend to use my infantry to win battles, so they are there for support and to draw fire whilst my troops amble in;
c) opponents who know me know what I use, so I expect big hitting, limited shot weapons, which means I do not get gunned down by autocannos and heavy bolters, etc. I like it that way. Psychologically, I like the numbers of the infantry better than the hardness of the dreads and I like the false sense of security in people's faces when they take out a dread, thinking I have lost the game with the loss of the support!
(I never said I was sane!!!)
In terms of the modelling, each is based on the Space Marine plastic dreadnought, as I wanted the maximum ease in cutting and fixing - it was always the plan to convert most, if not all, of the army, and this has been the case. I am not yet technical enough to be posting photos, but one day....
TSETSE - lascannon rt arm, with weapon cut back. Plastic tube used for outer barrels, with dowel for inner to form multi-melta. Pipes, etc. to taste, along with hooks, skeletal bits, etc for decor. Standard left arm, but fingers sliced to accept lengths of plastic girder, grottied up to look like saws. Face is entirely green stuff, with brass rod proboscis, compound eyes and brass rod antennae - it looks like a fly, hence the name. A profusion of boils and sores completes the visage. Trophy rack mounted on shoulders carries skulls, a Mordheim lantern for Plague Carrier effect (think Skaven censer bearer) and a battered shield with the Nurgle icon from the tank kits. Left foot largely removed and replaced by five tentacle-toed foot. Other skin patches, spikes, etc., added for decor. Exhausts topped with beast-like weapon heads from tank kits. Arms splayed slightly - I wanted the gunslinger stalking down the street effect.
All suitably rusty and sickly painted in a pale green, with the flesh slightly darker. Normal base with more plastic girder, rubble and pipework.
PUTRIX - autocannon rt arm cut back to shoulder. Plasma cannon from ancient "Space Orks" box set, skin moulded over join, etc. with boils, etc, decor to taste. Lt arm from Chaos dread kit, fitted into hole from which SM arm removed. Pale yellow-green skin for face, with three large, asymetrically-placed eyes, boils, etc. Decor to further Plague Carrier trait. Patches of sand coloured textured paint on skin and bodywork, washed magenta ink and drybrushed white to represent something like psoriasis/ eczema.
TETANUS - skin as PUTRIX, but four eyes (one blackened from some fight), two in normal place, one on left cheek, one on chin. Boils, etc. Defined nose and mouth to give almost human appearance. Psoriasis patches as above - more widespread. Rt arm from lascannon original, cut back to shoulder. Replaced with large, segmented tentacle (a la earthworm) melded onto rear of length of large plastic girder for weapon. Smaller tentacles assist with weapon use in theory. Left arm standard SM one, but fingers fitted with blades from Obliterator, and chainsword blade in centre. Heavy flamer fitted below. Ork shoulder pads used inverted on shoulders as braziers for greenish flames - Plague Carrier trait. Worms growing/ crawling from various holes on body and legs, Nurgling riding shotgun on shoulders with spiky crown bit from tank kit like a medieval saint's halo to top it all off.
Damage has been cut/ drilled into all, along with the "standard" insipid green and rust paint job. Nurglings added to taste.
Perhaps pictures would have been better than all the words...
it says every armoury of each codex, at caracters can only either a 2 handed weapon and a 1 handed weapon or 2 1 handed weapons, regardless of when they are used.
