i was wondering if any one could tell me some good tips on makeing good looking bases for my deathguard army and what has worked well for them. in want my army to look very good on the table so im going to make each base look good. so nay tips/ideas??
(><)This is Bunny. Im helping him on his way to world Domination!
In one of the recent white dwarfs (don't know the number off the top of my head)they had a demonic legion of nurgle mounted on wood chips painted as rocks with a heavy amount of tall static grass. it looked very dirty and fit nurgle perfectly. If you can't see the idea or can't find the picture, make some varnish green and drip it on the base in large amounts(might want to tape the sides while it drys). I think there is an article on slime making for models someware on this site.

"I have a new ship, i'ts called the Lollipop." "I have no Information on that ship" "It's new, just been commissioned, It's a good ship!"
In the recent Tale of 4 gamers series, Asger Granerud built a daemonic legion of nurgle, he painted his based to represent swamp, lots of PVA glue, ink and a bit of varnish.
I cant find the WD where he tells you how he did it, but if you like the swamp idea, check out WD305, there's a whole section on swamp scenery.
Yea i agree with Gorbass as swampy bases do suit Nurgle armies very well. I also think that the colouring should be very earthy browns and greens to also suit the general feel of the army.

Try cityfight style- Grey and rubble-like would suit much better. It would provide a contrast to the natural scummy green of the death guard. Swamp bases would look to much the same as the rest of the model and not add anything. I agree that swapm bases would make sense logically, but they would look the same as the rest of the model. The swamp bases in the previous WD looked impressive, but didn't suit on the death guard visually.
Last death guard army I saw was superbly based on a pink, rotting flesh style base which looked like it had been green stuffed and then mashed about to make it look really icky.
Looked interesting, like a daemon world or something. If I get the chance, I'll ask how it was done.
I use a base of brown textured paint for mud, which I drybrush with a sand colour (orangey like builders' sand) and then again with desert yellow or similar. I then add grass patches to taste. Before all of this, I have already spread sundry rubble, body parts, girders and other detritus around the base, which gets painted when I do the figures.
It really depends on your theme/ table/ set up. If you do deserts regularly, then swamp will not look right, however well you do it. An ice world will be the same. The bonus is that most worlds will be green, so mud, swamp, etc., will all suit. I would also paint the rims of the base, NOT leave them black, as painting the rim can also tie in your force as a whole entity, regardless of how you dress each individual base.
I use mud as I think it is more representative of more basic world types - even ice world terrain can be churned up by tanks, shells, etc. I just think it fits better, so all my armies get mud as a base.
