I have 24 Chaos space marines, and i was wondering ether to make 2 squads of 12 or 3 squads of 8. Im planing to infiltrate the squads with heavy weapons, this makes them very vonereble to assaults, so i was planing to put 4 assault marine and a champion in the front line to have more attacks when i get based. Is this a good idea or should i just make 3 squads, 2 infiltrating and the assault sqaud carried around by a rhino. Which is better?
"Iron within, iron without."
Firstly, you can't mix the basic weapons of a marine squad- either bolt pistols with CCWs, or bolters with CCWS. I know this is obvious, but by the way you talked about assault marines, I'm just making sure.
Squads of 8. 12 is a little large. What kind of heavy weapons do you plan on using? The weapons really define what purpose the squad has, so you really have to know what you plan the squad on doing before we can make wargear selections.
Personnally i would use 4 squads of 6 as this gives you some manouverability and it also allows you to include more heavy weapons (1 in each). Or you could use 2 of the squads as combat squads with infiltrate and have 2 stood back. It just gives you more options.
Bigger is not always better
