I have been looking though the Codex and I have noticed the Sacred number. As Eldar I always kept units of 10 eldar in transports or 20 out. (Execpt for aspect warriors). Now normal marines most people use 10 guys per unit. My question is should I use the 6-7-8 sacred number with the free champion or another number? Think 20 marines with bolters would be bad or something? I would just like imput on this for making my army. (Iron Warriors, I like a min of 30! marines/troops)
Well, if you're playing Iron Warriors, the Sacred Number doesn't matter to you one iota. Sacred Number only matters when you play pure cult armies.
In Emperor's Children armies, I personally feel squads of six are woefully undermanned, especially if they're CC geared. It's not so bad with shooty, but I still feel edgy.
Nurgle isn't so bad, since the troops are dead hard to kill. I prefer my groups in even numbers for morale issues, but since they're fearless, it's not such a bad thing.
Khorne has it easy - his number is a decent squad size, and the Champions are great to have.
Tzeentch is, in my opinion, too high of a number. Thousand Sons are far too expensive, and fielding that large of numbers just for a saving of 13 points doesn't seem worth it to me. I'd rather drop the squad size a few and field more of them, myself.
Any other army, I tend to field squads of 10 if they're CC geared, as that's a decently easy group to infiltrate, and keeps enough numbers to be deadly in CC. Shooty squads are six if fielded with a Heavy Weapon (Like Lascannon), or eight if armed with plasma guns.
The sacred number only gives you benefits if you play one of the legions of the gods (World Eaters, Death Guard, Emperor's Children, Thousand Sons). There is no benefit for Iron Warriors or any of the other forces. If you do play as one of the original legions then the sacred number gives you the free Champions which is always good, and a bonus for Daemon summoning which is also quite useful. If you are not playing one of those armies then the sacred number will give you no benefit at all so feel free to beef up your squads.
EDIT: Curses, Caluin beat me to it. :p
Well I am new to chaos and I am not sure what I am going to do. I am asking because I am not sure what I should field for an army. I love! LOVE! Armor. I would love to take 2x prediators with mutated hulls and demonic posession. 1x vanquisher, and 1x devistator squad (5x with heavy bolters, or autocannons. I have enough anti-tank.)
Now here is what I like. I love the toughness 5 troops, but how much will it really help me for the points? Also should I take their sacred number? The two wound marines are also sweet but I love to death the marines with the 5+ inv and +1 str. I would love to field 2x squads of 10 and 2x shooty squads of normal marines. But I am not sure how many I should take or what army. What would you all suggest for a 1500 point list that has a good amount of marines (Min 30) and 2 prediator tanks (Or is that a waste?). I do not like termies so any idea's which world would be good? I want a nice rounded force.
Ps. I play against marines (Ultramarines and wolven, Necrons, and 2 or armies in the league. One is a horde orc (100+ guys) and a speed freaks)
The number 6 for EC would be awesome if EC could use razorbacks instead of rhinos.
Remember that multiples of the number work too, so thats 6, 12, and 18 for Emperor's Children, 8, and 16 for World Eaters, 7 and 14 for Death Guard, and 9 and 18 for Thousand Sons.
Cheeta it sounds to me like you would be an Iron Warrior type of guy. Iron Warriors can field Vindicators and Basilisks, and have tons of Obliterators.

Well, as stated earlier if you play Iron Warriors you can have four Heavy Supports but you may not use any models bearing a mark other than undivided.
So no Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne or Slaanesh units.
There is nothing mentioned about Dedicated vehicles though...
sacred number doesn't really matter, because:
Iron warriors can't use demons except for demon prince and possessed
and,, Iron warriors can't use model without mark of chaos undivided.
