After reading Caluin's thread on the various Daemonic Gifts, I've been thinking about my Daemon Prince. The Army is Black Legion, so no Gifts of the Gods. Currently I have:
Daemon Prince Faraleth (HQ)
Mark of Chaos Undivided
The rest of the army comes to 1349 points.
This leaves me with 65 points for Daemonic Gifts (due to the 100 point limit). Before you question the Stature and Flight: I just spend 2 hours this morning pinning the wings on. They are well and truly stuck on, and there's sod all I can do about the Stature.
What I want really is CC Prince but is still general purpose, i.e. stands a chance against most enemies. I'm making this army for University so I have no idea what armies I will be facing.
Any advice on this would be appreciated, I don't want to assemble and paint his guy only to have him fall on his face somehow.

I'm glad people are using Caluin's thread on daemonic abilities. I'm still a new player, but I've found this thread applies very well to my battles.
Here are some gifts that you should consider for your prince:
1- daemonic strength: this will enable you to cut throw basic troopies like they were butter. Basically you have a 2+ instead of a 3+ to wound. This ability should be on every prince (few exceptions).
2- daemonic resilience: Same as daemonic strength, but the reverse applies. This, too, should be on every prince.
3- daemonic essence: I like essence, because it often gives you one more round to tear into your enemy. You should definitely consider this ability.
4- daemonic mutation: Tyipcally, most players consider this ability too expensive for its points. Now, that being said, most daemon prince builds that I've looked at are for khorne, nurgle, and slaanesh. All three of these prince builds have the option of increasing their attacks through their specific wargear and etc. As a black legion, this ability might come in handy, since you cannot increase your attacks, except for giving the prince an additional c.c. weapon. I would wait and read what other people say about mutation.
5- daemonic visage: It nearly always pays for itself and often will help to take out 40-80 points in one round. I'm really am a big fan of this ability for its point cost. There is one problem with visage. Example: Your opponent falls back due to a moral failure, and he beats you on the sweeping advance dice roll. If this happens during your turn, then your opponent has one full round of firing at your prince.
I forgot to add daemonic aura, which should definitely be used on your prince.
I know this dosent have any thing to you with your particular deamon prince, for for my fellow word bearers out there, I was wondering what you guys think about giving the deamon prince an accursed Crozius. It gives the DP a higher than average inv save...the only problem it the points.....its a tad bit expensive.
What are your thoughts?

As for your Prince, you probably already have a good idea of what you want to do. I doubt you really need a Daemon Weapon, and you can probably get by with taking just 2X CCW.
As for gifts, you'll probably want just a few of the basics and leave it at that. Boydgarrett covers it well, and brings up a good point for both Visage and Mutation. I would take just Strength and Resilience, and leave it at that. Furious Charge might be useful as a Veteran Skill, but not necessary, as he has good strength and Initiative already.
If you are dead set on taking a ranged weapon/power, you can invest into Winds of Chaos. It's relatively short ranged, but doesn't require a to-hit roll. Be wary of it though - with only a six inch charge range, a canny opponent will remove models to deny you a charge, and then blast away at the Prince.Yes. It is very expensive for just a single weapon, isn't it? But once you do the break down, it's not such a bad deal at all. You end up getting an improved Daemonic Aura for the same cost as the basic power; quite a bargain, if you ask me. Taking a huge chunk out of your Daemonic Gifts total shouldn't be an issue, as you shouldn't have a need to invest 100 points into Gifts in the first place. The worst thing about the Crozius is being forced to play Word Bearers. But, if you were planning on playing them anyways....Originally Posted by Tainted Serpent

feel no pain
trading the feel no pain for d.aura drops the cost and allows for other stuff just dont land him 15 inches in front of a predator.but that is one heck of a close combat warrior
