I really like the scheme for the pre-heresy Thousand Sons and i Wouldn't mind buying a squad of Space Marines to paint up in the scheme. My question is, could i use these in a game as Thousand Sons or would i only be able to paint them up for aesthetic reasons?

They have them in issues of White Dwarf, The colors of the pre-heretic Thousand Sons are in the issue with the Skaven guy on the front (why should i pay attention to issue numbers?).

well if your gonna use the pre heresy colours why not just count the army as a vanilla undivided or just use the normal cult rules. or if you really wanted to go that far back then have them fighting for the imperium still just use vanilla marine rules.

I've got a World Eaters army which is "set" somewhere around Istvaan, a bit before maybe a bit after.

It is in the original White and Blue scheme. Not a single model bears any marks of chaos whatsoever. I even went as far as to file down any studded trimmings on armour or weapons, as they were not shown to have that in the IA article or any other artwork I have seen.

I use the chaos codex but not the cult rules. I have given most of them marks of khorne to show their ferocious bloodthirsty nature. I set myself down some guidelines however.

I used a lot of old fluff taken from the RoC books. In the original WE list they had heavy weapon squads as well as Librarians.

I have a Lord who I'd like to pretend is Angron. He's tooled up to the gills with gifts and carries a huge Runesword, like Angron does. (Dark Blade) He's accompanied by a retinue of champions in power armour with suitable nasty CC gear in a "Pre Heresy" Land Raider from forgeworld. None of them have any sort of "visible" daemonic mutations. No stature or extra limbs or wings. This is because at Istvaan they turned on their brethren who didnt suspect they were traitors. So they would have born no chaos markings or visible mutations.

I use a "Librarian" who has forsaken his powers and wears a Collar of khorne to signify his servitude. It wasn't until AFTER the heresy that the World Eaters' chief librarian was murdered, which led to a massacre of all those who still practised "magick"

I have a unit of "Posessed" to represent Marines from the Company of Blood who were extra-ordinarily adept and ferocious in CC. They are led by an aspiring champion who is modelled as a Chaplain. They have all been converted to display bare flesh on their torsos or arms. and have Daemonic Strength and Aura to show their ability to ignore wounds due to their rage, and increased feats of strength. They all carry Chain Axes as well to keep them fluffy.

My Heavy Weapons unit is modelled on the RoC book. It numbers 8 Marines, 3 armed with Heavy Bolters, 4 with Boltguns and one "sergeant" with a chainsword and pistol. This is where I get really fluffy... In the book it states that they were known to throw down their Heavy Weapons and charge into combat. Due to this I roll for Blood Rage EVEN THOUGH they bear no mark of chaos and I do not have to, so in effect I force myself to move them if I fail the roll even though there is no need to and I gain no advantage from it. I would have loved to have given them a mark of khorne, but the WE list as it stands forbids it. I think I make up for the cheeky addition of an "unfluffy" Heavy Weapons team by using a fluffy rule which I don't need to use at all, which can only hinder me, not help.

I have a dreadnought with interchangeable arms to give it either 2 ccws and "destroyer" plus flamer, or a Heavy Bolter and power claw.

My final Heavy Support choice is taken up by a Predator.

I fill up the list with many squads of 8 man World Eaters Beserker units armed with CCW and Bolt Pistol.

So yeh it is possible to do a very fluffy logical Pre-Heresy army. And you can play anyone with it, because I've used all the current rules, so it's 100% legal

Or you could just use the normal chaos rules or chose any one of the cults to base your army on........

Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons were not affected by the Rubric, and therefore were not just ashes trapped in armour.

So it would be a waste of time, much like your sarcastic reply.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I was just saying that you could just use normal chaos spacemarine rules. Didn't say you had to use thousand sons. The taint was still in thier blood even before the heresy. The heresy just gave them a means to do as they wished without the fear of being brought down by the inquisiton. Therefore I think that generic CSM rules would be quite befitting. So calm down with the hate logan.
