The best IW squad layout, small

Heres what I think is a good Iron Warrior squad layout that is small.

    6 x CSM
    1 with Lascannon
    1 with Plasme gun
    Rest with bolters
    Melta bombs

Feel free to yell jab and piont at this list.

    It's been a minute.

Pretty close. I would much rather a group of -

    Six marines
    1X Lascannon
    4X CCW + Bolt Pistol
1X Champion with Powerweapon + Bolt Pistol.

I prefer close assault/close quarters fire fight
    8x CSM
-2 w/ melta or plasma guns
-Apiring with Power Fist, Bolt Pistol
    -5 w/ bolt pistol/CC Weapon
    -MoU,Infiltrate

If i were going for a squad to sit back and shoot i would opt for Caluin's squad

That doesnt mean that you can't make a good CC squad.

Who says? Seige warfare isn't all just shooting ya know. Alot of it is raids, which require close combat. When stalking down the halls of a bunker facility, rooting out any survivers, you fight with CC.

With a Lascannon, that unit is not supposed to be shooting at troops. What a horrible waste of a relatively expensive weapon upgrade. As for your bolters, what do you plan on having them do against that vehicle?

Might as well give them some CC potential, for when the enemy assaults them to stop that Lascannon, it'll give them a chance at surviving.

The size of the squad (5-6 CSM) is not bad for the role your looking to fill. it looks like your looking for a anti-tank unit that is small, able to hide in terrain, and can take a hit. The squad could do that. however for the role your filling, you might be better suited without the melta bombs, if a tank is that close that you need melta bombs then you've done something wrong.

If you sold on the lascannon and plasma gun, then take Tank Hunter instead of melta bombs. If your looking for a small unit to pop some tanks, and you want 2 weapons that are high strength but don't want havocs try this.

    CSmx6
    -plasma gun
    -plasma gun
    -4 with bolters
    -tank hunter

Str 8 on pentration rolls could fill the same role as that lascannon. Inflitrate them and your right there with a big bang unit that can be used well against tanks, and isn't necessarily wasted shooting at tanks or troops. bolters can now hurt Armor 11 vehicles if you get lucky. This isn't the idle way to handle it, but if anti-havocs its your way to go.

Can a unit of IW-Csm's even have Meltabombs? And if so, since when?

EDIT: for shooting I like MoseC112's plasma infiltrating tankhunters. I really like them- it's nice to see someone using the possibility of multiple Vet.skills for unmarked units.

I just assumed he meant upon his Champion for the unit.

And I agree - that unit of Tank Hunting with Plasma Guns is a decent idea. Wouldn't be great against 14, but against AV13 and less, it'll do very well.
