I just started a chaos army and have a regular CSM squad, Khorne Bezerkers and a Defiler. When I fight my Space Marine friend he uses an infantry heavy army with loads of tactical marines, an 8 man terminator squad with Calgar, a whirlwind and a Drednaught with lasscannon, land speeder with multimelta and bike with multimelta for Anti tank.
What legion do you think would be the most effect. I was thinking the Iron Warriors because a Vinicador could rip apart troops and I actually have a Basalisc from my Imperial Guard that I might use. I was also thinking World Eaters but I just got the codex yersturday and I'm not sure what I should spend my money on against the Space Marines.
Any help would be appreciated

[QUOTE=GauntsGhost]I just started a chaos army and have a regular CSM squad, Khorne Bezerkers and a Defiler.
Note the defiler with template. Been killed many a time with that battle cannon.
If you get into close combat fast, you could rip him a new one with World Eaters... If he likes to sit back and shoot at ya, then go IW or Slaanesh... Slaanesh is a good bet for either. In case you wanna be ready for whatever he wants to throw at you.
You Can't Stop the Eighp
Had Tzeentch before I knew how to play :P
Chaos is great in it's diversity, all the gods and the different undivided legions have their special stuff.
I have however most experience with Thousand sons and undivided (Black Legion) so my advice will be based on them.
I'll start with Black Legion. I foud great use of both Obliterators, (Deepstriking twin-linked plasmas anyone? ) and the Khorne Berzerkers are too fun to not use when you are facing expensive Terminators-...and they'll have 4+ saves on theese zillion wounds.
Other than that it's as mentioned the Defiler and don't forget the Plasmacannon Dread.
If you want to blow him apart early you could always infiltrate four plasma havocs, give them a champion with powerfist and a teleporter homer for the Oblits:tongue: . Maybe add a unit of bloodletters to the mix and have the havocs bear an icon.
Then the Thousand sons, you could have some units of Sons in a Black Legion army, have Marines on their menue every day, all the day if you want.
Take a unit of sons, not the full nine though-try six for a starter, give them a champion (D.mutation+Powerfist) and give him Wind of Chaos, a familiar, Gift of Chaos and four Thralls. Put the lot in a Rhino and just head towards the enemy line.
Jump out of the Rhino and unleash Two winds of Chaos and 10 boltershots. That ought to be one unit of whatever completerly gone. The next time repeat and if you get dragged (or you charge) into closecombat snipe the dangerous people (powerfists/weapons characters etc) by turning them into Spawns. It's quite amusing.
You could also have a squad of Thousand sons acompanied by a Lt of Tzeentch, then give both the champion and the Lt Bolt of Change and four thralls each. That will blow quite some holes in the enemylines I garantee.
Good Luck fighting them Loyalist scum.
I put a SMurf on the ground and step on them. Repeat until gone. (Ignore screaming)
Seriously though, I like using a defiler. Helps alot in open areas. For their sick Chaplins make sure cut him down especially if he got a Fist, first with range as much as you can then engage CC. For their Dreadnoughts and vehicles, Raptors. Don't you love the sound of popping tanks?
If you go IW then pull up the defiler/bassy and three havoc squads, taken care of your major heavy weapons means you can work on using the rest of your army as you please. (Whoever said the masters of siege HAD to use as much ordanance as the IG?)
IW are awesome for maximising use of heavy weapons that don't always have to be ordanance. I myself play either 4 havocs, 3 havocs and the spare bassy I have, or the deadly 4 dreads with close combat arms and havoc launchers. Take up your fast attack as the raptors for deepstriking melta weapons in and gear the troops for either fire support or close combat. Nothing says evil like to many priority targets. (6 rhinos each carrying 10 marines with a pair of plasma and a champion with a serv army backed up by 4 cc dreads firing a pair of frag missles each is a very tough choice on who to get first...)
Take my love, take my land, take me to where I cannot stand; I don't care I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me.

It looks like he's geared towards anti tank in terms of heavy support. A whirlwind isn't going to do a whole lot to guys in power armor, and the dread is probably just going to stand around and shoot with a lascannon, a waste for the most part.
Khorne chainaxes are horrifically brutal against space marines, especially the terminators.
Since he has a fair amount of melta weapons I wouldn't reccomend taking much armor, or if you do take out the bike and speeder first. Giving the defiler indirect would probably be a good idea.
Havocs with missile launchers aren't terribly expensive and the krak missile will kill a power armor marine. Plasma weapons are also good if you don't mind the overheat.
Don't use a ton of firepower at the terminators, they can generally soak up a ton, either use something that gets a lot of shots hoping he rolls some ones, or will ignore their 2+ save (which is basically a lascannon or plasma...). You'll have to find a balance really, you want to get rid of them, but at the same time you don't want to throw so much at them that you aren't killing anything else.
Raptors with plasma (not so much here as it's rapid fire)or meltaguns (break off at the end of his turn, move fire, assault again) might be a good idea for mobile firepower. Or a Lt with D flight and the Kai gun could be a mobile firebase.

If you are considering IW there are numerous posts that will guide you in when to use the Bassy and when to use the Vindicator. Both have specific roles, and after lots of game play you will figure out when and how to apply their strengths (or you could just topic search and let previous posters so you how to do it)
IW is also wonderful for the availability of 3 slots of Obliterators. I've used 9 obliterators backed by CSM squads and a vindicator and foud marine players have no idea what to do. They have to dedicated so much fire power to kill 1 squad of Oblits that they are being pounded by the other 2 squads and the vindicator. Or they focus on the Vindicator and you deep strike the Oblits.
I can't speak from Slaanesh and the sonic weapons...as i have no experience, I here its good in a short range fire fight though, but heard it gets pounded by Tau and Guard... but don't we all?
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
You can get a lot of shots of with sonic weapons but most of the are AP 5, the highest being AP 4, so you're not going to go through a marines armor like a plasma gun could.
I can read now!
Is there a special rule for Chaos regarding plasma guns? I have read the codex many times and I couldn't find any reason why people love them for Chaos units. Every single time I've used them I end up cooking my own troops due to overheating. With the new rules that could happen twice as often! Am I missing something?
I do not criticize. I do not offend. All I offer is my opinion which means only as much as you make it.
