    plasma pistol
    combat drugs
    spiky bits.
    d essence
    d aura
    d speed
    minor psychic power
    tank hunter vet skill.

Ok rip it apart, any suggestions welcome.

Isn't it a good idea that you post ^^^^^^this lord in it's own topic, rather than piggybacking on someone elses? This could cause the discussion to go off on a tangent and totally forget about Everlord's Night Lords, and it's advisable not to make something go off topic - noone likes it, the mods, the thread starter, anyone.

Greg - I've moved your Lord into his own topic. As LoC said, derailing someone else's discussion is considered bad form around here.

-Why use a lord when a Leiutenant is much better suited for smaller games?
-Lash of Torment sucks. You are much better off spending the points on the Dark Blade
-Giving a high points cost figure a weapon that tends to explode (plasma pistol) is a bad idea
-Daemonic Essence is useless. He should only be wounded in CC even at that, he should be able to attack first and rid himself of any threats. And if he is wounded by a powerfist he's dead no matter how many wounds he has.
-Minor Psychic Power? Trying to get Siren? I really wouldn't even bother.
-Tank Hunter??????????? For a plasma pistol??????????

Let's move through this piece by piece:

    - Lord - use a lieutenant, in small games always devote all attention to troops rather than uber HQs.

    - The Lash of Torment is only useful if you're going to place him in the back of a squad, in which it's mean as he can attack them, but they can't attack him. But i'd say go with a dark blade, or maybe even just a humble old power weapon or pair of lightning claws - they will serve you well.

    - Plasma pistol is risky, and while you should be able to shrug off wounds from it, i wouldn't risk it. If you want good shooting, take a Kai Gun or Ether lance - but i'd stick with CC prowess.

    - Combat drugs - horrifically powerful in small games, but they are expensive. But you pay for versatility, so leave them in.

    - Spiky bits is good.

    - Essence is a bit wasteful, leave it off. With a lieutenant, theres no need anyway. Aura and speed are good, to get him into combat nice and quickly, though i'd suggest mutation too to add a bit of extra punch to him.

    - You can't have the minor power unless you pay the points to upgrade him to a sorcerer. In any case, i wouldn't bother.

    - Replace Tank Hunters with Furious charge or drop it altogether, it won't really make a difference.

    Hope this helps!

Sorry about piggy backing on someone elses thread. still new at this.
Ok i'll go with a leut and add your suggestions.
That'll save me some monster points, better to go on my units.
I'm trying to get a cross of reasonable firepower and good CC
I was given a figure with a pistol in one hand and a whip in the other so it looks
like the previous owner gave him the lash of torment. this was what I was
    working off.
Have just purchased another chaos lord figure, so he might become my leut with
    your suggestions.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Nope. Lords and Leiutenants are a point sink no matter how you see it. So the best way to make them cost efficient is to give them a certain role. If they are shooty or support or combat oriented, they should stick to just one role.

    Sorry Guys.
I'll clarify that statement as pointed out by Katalyst.
I'm aiming to make the leut a CC specialist, at least one unit a shooty unit and my
second unit a CC unit as well.
Would anyone use tanks in a 500 point army and is it worth turning a shooty unit
into a tank hunting unit ideas suggestions.

Well, for a 500 point list, you need to keep your HQ down to a reasonable cost, for one.

Two, you still need two Troops choices, so I'd use these as your main damage-dealers, since you have to have them anyways.

I wouldn't really recommend a tank in a list under 1000 points, but if you have the points I say go for it - just expect people not to want to play you that much, as they may consider it "cheesy" (or they'll just stack up on anti-tank weapons and blow it to smithereens.. ).

I suggest 2 units of 8-10 CSM, one with 2 plasma guns the other with ccw and an aspiring champion with plasma pistol (is it worth having these master crafted to avoid being overheated?) Then maybe a small unit of bikers. Bikers can have a ridiculous amount of attacks! Another idea, your lord could be riding a bike to join them.
