Ok... Like the title says, I've got an RTT coming up at the end of the month. My army is a DIY called Annihilation Angels (they follow night lords rules). My basic list is a med strength/cost prince, 2 raptor squads (one with 3 meltas, 1 with 3 flamers), 1 infiltrating cc troop, one support troop, dread with plasma, tank hunting havocs with missle launchers, bike squad w/ meltas and p.fist, and 2 oblits. If you need to see the list more thoroughly: CLICK HERE.
Anyway, I started this specific thread becasue I need some advice on 2 specific armies I have trouble with. My army, being the fast assault army that it is, is great against almost any opponent (escpecially shooty armies like tau). The only problem I have is against SM-killer eldar lists, and some tyranid lists. I know for a fact I'll be going up against 2 such eldar lists, and at least 2 nid lists.
One of the eldar lists are guardian/aspect heavy, the other is ranger heavy (the disruption ones). Both have tons of SM-killer guns, and both field a squad of scorpions, banshees, and a farseer w/ warlock bodyguard, all transported in falcons that are difficult to take down because of upgrades.
One nid list is full of fast attack, the other requires virtually no synapse (lots of stealers). Both have lictors and heavy carni's. The fast list has a flying tyrant, while the other uses guard.
I'm looking for suggestions to take these guys down.
I think that in your case, you're going to want to drop the Missile Launchers in favour of Autocannons. They'll consistently kill more Skimmers, Infantry (Eldar), bugs and TMCs (Tyranids) than Missile Launchers will. Only take the MLs if you plan on going up more Power Armour armies than you do anything else.
I would recommend staying away from expensive models, such as Bikes and Raptors. The troopers are what's going to survive those kinds of battles. A troop of eight basic troopers, two with Flamers, would be excellent to field in this kind of environment.
Looking at your list, the first thing I would do as a potential opponent is slam an infiltrating Close Combat unit into your havocs. They have no potential in Close Combat.
Plasma Guns will help you against the 'Nids - they're your most reliable way of taking down TMCs.
I would actually try to find a way to take two units of Autocannon Havocs instead of that Dread. A single piece of armour begs to be Bright Lanced. Dropping it will also screw up any Gun Fexes that might exist in your opponents list - Venom Cannons are notorious for being the only reliable anti-tank in a Tyranid list. They really suck when it comes to taking down Power Armour troops.
Yeah, I'm a nid player and Autocannons really do dmg to Tyranids. Take them when you can.
I'd definatley follow the Autocannon advice, but I don't think im going to be able to buy/assemble/paint the appropriate models in time for the RTT (next weekend). Thanks for everything so far tho. Any other suggestions?
Possibly another Oblit? I know when I fight against Eldar, they used to come in handy when I played Black Legion. They take down Falcons or whatever comes out of them fairly quickly due to the lascannons and then Heavy Bolters. And they aren't too shabby in CC either.
I would suggest, when you play the 'Nids, to not assault them, let them run up the board at you... Something I have a hard time doing haha. I always want to advance. I have a lot of experience against 'Stealer armies, and once 1 gets into your lines, your pretty done for. Just kill em as you see em, and pray that somehow he doesnt send his entire army at you at once. Worry about the 'Stealers first and then the fex's trust me on that. And those infernal biovores... god I hate those things.
Thats all for now... Good luck
You Can't Stop the Eighp
Had Tzeentch before I knew how to play :P
I play a fast, assault focused chaos army too (Emperor's Children) with lots of bikes and rhinos, so whenever I go up against an army that's going to give me a tough time in melee (Eldar, Tyranids, Khorne), I avoid them like the plague. Just keep my rhinos and bikes moving and shooting until i've finally whittled them down enough that I might actually be able to beat them in melee. Against the faster armies, like Eldar or Tyranids it's a bit tricky to pull off... leaving them bait, like my Daemonettes, works really well.
Inflitrate also works really well. One thing that really gets me is, since I usually like to do the assaulting, I line my troops up as close as I can (whilst still in cover) to the edge of my deployment zone (on something like a cleanse mission in particular), then my opponent inflitrates his troops into all four table quarters(including mine) and in dividing his troops, I either have to divide mine or risk losing a table quarter when my troops get tied down on one quarter.
The dread is probably a bad idea, since even the tyranid's basic genestealer squads can tear it to pieces. I'd drop it and try to squeeze in another support troop if you can... nothing kills 'nids or eldar like a good old fashioned rapid firing bolter (except a sonic blaster  ).
