i want to get a new heavy support but don't know what to get.
what do you guys think is more cost-effective, effecient, more killing, whatever.
Predator, Dreadnought or Defiler?
dreadnought can assualt and shoot well, the predator's got good armour, and the defilers got a HUGE gun. what's good?
I remember you're an Alpha Legion player, that means you'll have many infiltrating units.
What will happen to them if Defiler has a sneeze when he shoots his mighty BC?
Bot Dread and Pred are pretty customisable, but I'll recommend you to take a Dreadnought. Even with his psychotics fits he is still really effective in both ranged and close combat. Just use some rare-earth magnets, so you can rearm him if needed.
Well it depends what you need. If you need more tank killing power and don't mind spending a little extra get the pred with lascannons all around. Or if you want some infantry killing potential, go with bolters for sponsons. Eithter way, the pred packs more killing power than the dread. Plus if ur really point flexible you could give it mutated hull making it very hard to kill. I'd only get the dread if your tight on points. It's very rare for the dread to get into close combat. With 12 armor, they go down pretty quick if u charge him forward.
The Dread is the way to go, you gan give it a mutated hull and it will have the same armour as the Predator. When i play othe SM players with Dread i tend to use a lot of fire power to take them out early caus i know how much damage they can do. also i think there cheaper than the defiler and predators
For The Emperor
And Lion El Johnson
Ok, lets say u give the dread mutated hull and twin-lascannon. You now have the same armour as the pred with 1 re-rolling las. Now, you can buy a pred with las sponsons and the twin linked las turret for just 20pts more. So... 20 more points for 2 extra lascannons... If your that tight on points go with the dread. But I'll let you be the judge on which is better...
Well....the dread is about 1000 times better in close combat...give him 2 close combat arms, thats 90 points...4 S10 attacks i think....and 2 twin linked bolters (which you can then upgrade 1 for 12 pts for a heavy flamer, maybe mutated hull?)....BUT....if you wanna have a shooty heavy choice...stick with the predator...for 125 points or somethin...you can get 2 lascannons and 1 autocannon......your choice in what your gonna do
I find close combat much better for WINNING.....but you have to get to their troops......a shooty predator xcan shoot a few turns before getting shot/ destroyed...while they can take out the dread 1rst turn...personally, would you shoot at a predator or a dread with 4 S10 attacks?!

well actually i have a khorne army right now and i think cc might be better in khorne armies.
however some firepower might be good.
also i'm starting an alpha legion army and need to get into cc faster(than infiltrate). or with infiltrate. so a dreadnought with fire frenzy could potentially get into close combat real fast. But massive firepower and huge battle cannon is quite tempting.
If you have Khorne, then I suggest the Predator with Autocannon turret and Lascannon sponsons, with Daemonic Possession. You have plenty of Close Combat power as is - probably best to add some balance to the list by adding strong ranged anti-tank power.Originally Posted by chaotic scottyIn an Alpha Legion list, none of the three would be very fluffy. The Dread would be okay, but I prefer Predators - they can bring more firepower and armour for a cheaper price. The only thing a Dread brings is the ability to fire all weapons on the move, which isn't that big of a deal when you realize that Chaos dreads should never be equipped with a Missile Launcher.Originally Posted by chaotic scotty
The Defiler is straight out for both of them - Ordnance does not belong in a Close Combat army list.
dreds are nice but 1 dred is pretty worthless, there best in pairs. but a single predator with upgradd hull, laz cannon and heavy bolters is a welcome addition anywhere.
Predator's can be near-invincible with the right upgrades. Mutated hull, deamonic possesion and parasitic possesion. Expensive, but near invincible.
