Hello everyone, Im new to these fourms and could be considered a "Noob" but I know a bit about the hobby via my dad and I have a a few questions
I have a space marine force but want to play plague marines, I was wondering if I could convert some of my SM into death guard marines
My third and last question is what kind of hq is good in 500 and 1000pt games
You can easily convert normal SM into plaguemarines, just put some greenstuff on them, make the luck infected and such and poperly paint them in loving nurgle colours ( note: rotten flesh always helps )
Converting marines to plague marines is one of the easier conversion jobs. You can also roll g.s. (green stuff) into long Spaghetti-strand and attach them to the abdomen region to simulate rotten guts. Looks good and is rather simple.
Regarding your hq choice for a 500 point game: keep him cheap. A chaos lt with a manreaper and daemonic strength is good, but still rather expensive. Try a chaos lt with a kai gun. It's not as fluffy as the manreaper, but this configuration is good in almost any army build, regardless of the points.
Do you think you could reccomend anything for heads and backpacks
you can drill small holes in the helmets where the SM mouth is and place hoses there, also the backpacks can ge warped by using greenstuff and such.
1 more thing, what hq would be able to kill most other hqs in a 1000 pt game
In a 1,000 point game, you'd want a cheap lord (or even lieutenant) with Daemonic Strength and a Manreaper and a few other upgrades (like daemonic speed and and inflitrate).
He might have some problems with opposing HQ's, but he'll butcher opposing squads. Ultimately, this will pay off better than focusing on having your HQ kill your opponent's HQ.
I watched my friend's Nurgle Prince single-handedly turn a Space marine army's flank a few days ago... wiped out a bike squad, a squad of allied Grey Knight Terminators, a squad of 10 marines (complete with "hidden" powerfist), a terminator librarian and half an assault squad before finally being stopped by a very lucky powerfist wielding chaplain... I actually felt bad for the guy playing space marines... but it was almost entirely because of the Manreaper (though don't count on it doing something like that every game). That weapon pays dividends like none other.
Wow, I never thought demon princes would be able to do all that.
If I were to model my own prince what other pitz would you suggest
Head conversions: g.s. is another option. Really, g.s. solves most of d.g. conversion issues. You can smear it on the head like toxic sludes, or drape it over the back, as though it were a hood. I've seen a leper army done this way. D.G. is one of the easier armies to convert, simply because slime and sludge and the likes are easy to form and very friendly to mistakes. When converting from S.M to chaos I like leaving a decent amount of the models alone and only giving highlights to represent the corruption. This is great for fluff, and S.M. players love to give you smack for it (but usually in a good fluffy sort of way...role play and all).
Nurgle HQs: Chaos hqs are best used against you opponents troops (monstrous creatures would be the exception). I reserve my special weapon squads to take out my opponent's hqs. In a 1000 point game especially the two most effecient hq builds are a chaos lt w/ kai gun and infiltrate; or a chaos lt with manreaper, daemonic strength, and infiltrate. Neither of these hqs are made to take out characters and your opponents hqs, but they are great at controlling the crowd. The second one usually joins a squad and spear-heads your opponent in his largest troop squad.
Here's a Nurgle hq that can rivel other hqs: Chaos lt, MoN, infiltrate, darkblade, daemonic strength, furious charge. He's rather cheap and will kill most characters in one hit if he gets to charge. In a 1000 point game, however, you should really be using your hq to beat down troops.
Like been said before nurgle HQ's are better suited to taking out normal troops, they can tackle other HQ's but that woould be a waste of some of the finest nurgle wargear.
A nurgle HQ can have an ungodly amount of attacks, sometimes even beating a khorne lord.
Also terminator armour is a very good upgrade when you combine it already with their increased thoughness.
On a sidenote if you really want a cool looking deamon prince then wait for the coming summer campaign, city of death, chaos will receive a nurgle deamon prince as one of their releases.
