Im going to be playing a game vs a seasoned Ultramarine player and i need advice.
This will be either a 1500 or 2000 point game.
At this point in time i know some things he is indefinately going to field due to watching him play games before:
-Martius(or something)with a chaplain and honour guard , transported in a land raider
I would appreciate if you guys could give a idea of what to field and a liable strategy to use.
If he's not using any landspeeders you're in luck. Post your current build(s) under the chaos army section, then people will critique your army.Originally Posted by Akaline
Take a look at this list I've linked.
Sample List ( Death Guard)
It's extremely effective at destroying Power Armour armies. The amount of Plasma Guns will chew through high cost unit, such as the Command Squad or the bikers. The Melta Guns give you a fighting chance against that Landraider.
Notice how the list has only the essentials, and doesn't spend points friviously.
That list is only 1500 points - you still have 350 points to play with. Another two squads of Marines would be most advised, as the bodies are what's going to give you the best advantage.
It sounds like he's going over board on high cost units. That's an advantage you have over him - the more troops you have, the better off you are.
If you aren't fond of termis, then you can always drop them for another identical troop squad. Also, if you drop one of your havoc squads in conjuction w/ the termis, you can actually get 6 troop squads all told, one havoc squad w/ plasma guns, and a chaos lt w/ manreaper, damonic strength, and infiltrate. If you decide to go this route, I would only put melta guns in 4 of the 6 troop squads, and plasma guns in the other 2.
One thing you don't want to avoid are expensive models. The list Caluin suggested had no vehicles.
a Defiler would be a good option if you could keep it away from the landraiders lascannons. The Battle cannon on it can do some real damage to models in power armour such as his command squad, also what type of predator is it?
I would deepstrike the terminators. If not the terms will foot slogging a good distance(3 to 4 turns) plus it will draw alot of fire. I would also give 1 regular unit teleport homer so the terminators can could in safe. I would hate to lose all that to impassable terrian. Good list

How often do you classify anything as impassable, though? Unless you've got some oddly shaped terrain, it rarely ever comes up.Originally Posted by bonekrusher

I actually think the list posted would do you fine. You mention you have 350 to play with and the defiler would be a good addition. There's enough ap 1/2 weapons in there to give even marine player a run for his money, and i wouldn't be to concerned with landspeeders since your bolters glance it, and plasma can easily pop it. i would keep the terminators the way they are since with the reapers you get little extra range with then, and deep striking them can be wonderful.
so with 200 left after the defiler (pend upgrades) you might want to consider some daemons to drop in to surprise him, plague bears are fun and nurglings would just be entertaining.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)

I do not have good luck with DS not only impassable terrain. You can not get no close than and inch to another enemy unit or the off board. The main reason I like terminator homer is you can have some control where the squad will show up.

Nice list. I play guard, and the infiltrate will certainly come in handy, I can tell you. I also agree about the defiler and demons/ nurglings. That would help with just about anything. I have played against the nastiest nurgle army you have ever seen at least five times, and your list looks good.
