So, the Emperor's Children have a the sonic blaster and blastmaster avaliable as alternate weapons. But where are they effective? Now ive heard that sonic blasters on bikes are lethal, and sonic blasters and blastmasters in tactical squads are also good. but what about on dreads, preds and havocs? I'm thinking in relation to use against Tau, Eldar, Nids, Loyalists (BA), IW and IG.
Hive Fleet Fuzzy Bunny: Lots and lots of points of Nids (4000pts+)
The Chapter of the Damned: 5500pts of Dark Angels
The Children of Fulgrim: 5-6000pts of Emperors Children
The Kabal of the Bloodied Claw: 2000pts of Dark Eldar
I usually reserve sonic blasters strictly for bikes, as they are too expensive on troops. Regarding blastmasters- this weapon is very effective in both c.c. and ranged units. However, there are better weapons to use on your vehicles. It's hard to justify devoting a dreadnought arm to a blastmaster, when the blastmaster can be taken by a 19 point troop model. For this reason I never use them on tanks or dreads.
I'm with Boyd on this. With the Mark, Sonic Blaster, and a standard Veteran Skill, you're looking at 27 points per troop model. That's just far too expensive for my tastes.
I do like taking Sonic Blasters on Terminators and Bikers, however. They're extremely cheap on them, and combined with their ability to act as a stable firing platform, they always make the most of the high rate of fire.
Putting a Sonic Blasters on a Dread or Predator is purely for fluff reasons.
Blastmasters work great in line troops. The ability to cause pinning is invaluable, and not something any other Chaos legion can claim. Also, it gives you an impromptu Heavy Weapon to deal with tanks. Whether it's a shooty or Close Combat squad, I think every EC troop squad deserves to have a single Blastmaster in it. I do not believe it belongs in Havoc squads, however. Autocannons will do much more for them than Blastmasters.
Blastmasters on Dreads and Predators are still for fluff reasons, but are still quite effective.
Once I saw 2 x 15 Noise Marines squads on a table all with sonic blasters and 1 blasmaster in the squad, all infiltrating. The EC player infiltrated his squads at 24" of the opponent and only moved backward 6" each turn, always firing 31 shots each squads each turn as the opponent who was playing Ultramarines could only fire 1 shot from each bolters he had. As soon as his troop transports were destroyed, there was nothing he could realy do about those 2 squad, as he was so preocupied with the 2 predators and the dreadnought that were wreaking havocs from behind. He wipped 3 full tactical squads, 1 5 terminator squad and 1 tech marine + accolytes and only lost 7 Noise Marines.
This was a nice game.
CHAOS Undiv.: won 14/22 games EC: 4/7 WE: 6/9 DG: 10/15, TS: 3/7 Orks : 13/20 SM NL : 1/6 TAU: 14 of 24 IG: 3/7
i reckon you should use atleast one havoc sqaud in your EC army.
Blastmaster : if used with tank hunter, has same effect on tank exept it uses a blast marker as well, if used with pinning imagine all the troop units that you would pin
Sonic blasters : ok expensive for troops but..... if you had a 6 man sqaud with 4 Sonic blasters 1 bolter and a ac they would take out they points worth ..... maybe because thats 13 shoots per sqaud 9 hits 4 or 5 wound and thats 5 hormagaunts dead. by the time they get to you theres about 6 left and you could take them out with your AC.
Sonic blasters on bikes: i saw the game manager useing them the only reson he won agianst the orks he was playing was because he had a unti that would kkeep moving back and shooting
Sonic blasters on terms: DONT... cause itl only give you an extra 10 shots when charging and the standard gunz already re-roll
But what would a 8 man havoc squad with 4 missile launchers do to that squad?
you dont understand.... they are speicalist sqauds good for pinning swarm armies, destroy tanks and killing okrs, nids and gaurd...... they arnt anti marine ( altough they could be anti khorne and space wolves.
