Ages ago I painted a small Night Lord army and really enjoyed the figures and their imagery (we don't like anyone). I was surprised to see so few of their armies around. Is there something wrong with them? Or is there some hidden reason why they're not so common?
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
i've trying to play night lords, but they seem very tricky... have to get to your opponent's lines without taking too much losses... nightlord are made for close combat, but for chaos, khrone are better at that, that could be one of the reason why few ppl play night lords...
The biggest problem NLs have is that they lack most types of daemons (furies are a joke anyway, so they don't really count). Daemons are arguably the biggest strength of chaos armies, their ability to appear almost anywhere means they can easily reinforce areas of the battlefield. And yes, Slaanesh and Khorne are both better than NLs in cc. Also they don't have obliterators if I remember rightly. However, NLs have some of the coolest fluff going in 40k
@WarsmithNiG - To avoid casualties go for bikes, their toughness really helps
Nevah say that Furies are bad when I am around! =)
They are nice. 15 pts for flight, STR5 and IN5! Not bad. They don`t work good with T4 armies thats true, but they bring havoc on T3 armies. Tay, IG, Whitchhunters, Eldar - they all ph3ar Furies. Or should be.
With other armies... Well just throw them on the most dangerous squad. They will tie them up. I like to slowdown Terminators or my opponent`s deamons with them. They are nice with Walkers too. 150 pts squad max holding for 2-3 turns squad for 300+ points with good chance to kill some models? Nice, still nice.
Concerning why people don`t play NL - as I have alreay posted somewhere, GW made a good joke. They gave a Fast Atack oriented NL... +1 Cover Save. Is it usefull for you Raptors? Bikers? I think not.
Well anyway, I like my NL.
2 Slaughter, you are wrong - the only restriction for NL in Army List are Deamons. They still can take Oblitirators.

Night lords are pretty strange army to play. They look great, with their nice winged helmets and their unlimited raptors, but it's hard to play full fast attack army that has a reasonable cost. You realy need a lot of troops and a lot of small FA squads to make it work nicely. I've only played 4 games with those, but I begin to understant how they work. The idea is not to try to make a balanced army of it. Eighter fill all your FA choices with bikes and furies or use only troops to Stand and shoot behind cover, providing there is cover. But it's still nice to play. My favorite way to play them is cc troops in rhinos, small bikes and raptors squads and no Elite nor Heavy Support, this seems to work perfectly.
CHAOS Undiv.: won 14/22 games EC: 4/7 WE: 6/9 DG: 10/15, TS: 3/7 Orks : 13/20 SM NL : 1/6 TAU: 14 of 24 IG: 3/7
If i play another Chaos army, it will most likely be Nightlords. I think their fluff is amazing, and the playing style is complicated and takes a really skilled player to make them competitive. That being said, Nightlords are generally severely outnumbered, and most players are not aware how to work their rules to benefit them. They are a force which must be played skillfully, and not knocking chaos players... most chaos players are not all that skillful at deployment because we have a very forgiving armor save
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I play Nightlords, and i do prety well for mysself, as a mater of fact, i won the last game i played, its about deployment and using your troops wisely, since if your taking raptors, your not gona have to many, i jsut Infultrate my troops into cover, and blow the living Heck out of the enemy while i run in my Lord(zso sahaal) and my raptors, jsut the basics, and i switch it around if things go difrently, but i take a pumped up lord everytime, and it realy really helps
*and for my fluf* ---- I play an army loyal to zso sahaal, so technicly im playing a non chaos army, so.... yeah i dont take evven furies, no obliterators or defilers, or possed or anything and i have replaced the daemon upgrades names jsut for my sake* so i can legal play them still.
I LOVE my Nightlords and would never replalce them ever, i think they are an expertise army, and you jsut got to be able to play it right:tongue:
I got into them for their fantastic background and funky Index Astartes rules (at the time).
With the current codex, I found them a bit too point and click. So sold them on.
Now I'm on to black legion :w00t:
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
