i'm thinkin of startin chaos or reg space marines can anyone tell me the different types?leanin towards the chaos side
Come to the dark side, it sooo much more fun and people won't hate you as much for having Assault cannons (more challenging too).
Chaos has a different armory and there are 4 gods, Khorne, Nurgle, Slannesh, and Tzeentch. With each they have different strengths, and each have their own Cult army (all are mark by one of the gods only). They also have special gifts and daemonic weaponary. Pick Black Legion (or your own background) and you can have all the marks but it is mix and match and on page 38-39 their are restrictions and the the like.
there are a few siginifcant differences between the imperial and chaos armies
have 'shall know no fear' this means they can regroup under 50% and can never be chased down and killed from combat
some of the weapon and vehicle upgrades that imp SM can have are unavailiable to chaos.
well this is where it gets good
every troop type (standard without a mark) can have vetern abbilities, the unit champion has access to a much wider variety of wargear than a norml vet sgt.
chaos characters have access to the vetern skills without having to take command squads.
you can have up to 20 marines in a single squad, thats 120 marines possible in a standard mission chart. and thats just from the troop choices.
your jump pack troops have access to the vet skills
you can have a battle cannon that indirect fires, heavy weapon troopers that infiltrate.
and this is just from the normal list without the makrs of chaos
there are so many advantages that the imperial troops dont have it is no wonder that the majority of marine armies at tourneys are chaos.
WARMASTER of the SCHOLA PROGENIUM Alnwick Chapter (soon to be the world)
I'd prefer CSM, as they have a very wide selection of units, High customization. Personality ^.^.
And a whole lot of one thing..... Power. mwhahahah.
They have great Close combat armies, spellcasting, balanced, high endurance, and very shooty army choices. And who wants to be good anyways?
Chaos marines are 1 point cheaper and have 1 more leadership then regualer marines so they are naturally better. They also have more options like marks and veteran skills.
it's also a lot more fun designing your own chaos lord and army.
Check out my Codex: Farmyard Animals here!
If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
chaos' main advantages lie in their daemonic upgrades space marines are good but i heavily advise you choose chaos holding daemons back and then releasing them when the time is right is highly rewarding and who can match the destructive power of the obliterator?
Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.:ninja:Originally Posted by XxDemonDragonxX
You could also read up on the chaos articles in the articles section. I'm a newbie to and that's what I've been doing.
yeah, Personally first,
I'd learn and fully understand 40k, and fully research about it first.
(assuming your newbie to the game) if not proceed
Then you can read up on their dex's, find info about them.
Personally if you are still stuck, you can always...
Model as standard SM, but once you feel that you want to venture to the dark side, you can always just add more spikey bits or some sort and it is generally easier to convert from standard to chaos heh.
