About 2/3 of the Army Lists discussed on this forum are 2000-3000 points.
I ain't saying I disapprove, but if you have a 2000+ plus list, challenge yourself to "tournament-ize" it. See if you can drop it to 1500 and still keep 400 or so points in troops.
You might find yourself with a really solid, destructive list.
Just my two cents,

Two-thirds you say? Honestly, based on the chaos army lists, it seem more like 1/5 or even less.
Most chaos builds sink around 60% of their points into troops, so I would imagine that it would not be difficult to preserve the 400 point marker you said above.
Just observations, that's all
Most nubies spend their points in useless elite / Fast Attack units or spend all on their HQ. Usualy, an advanced player understand the importance of basic troop. Droping 400 points ? Just build a 1500 points army.
