    Death Guard Vs. Iyanden Eldar

I have a battle with a player who runs Iyanden Eldar and I run Deah Guard. We are playing a 2000 point battle this saturday. From what I understand, Iyanden counts wraithguard and wraithlords as troops, so I should expect a fair amount of these high toughness, multiwound models. To counter this, I was going to take plaguebearers. Here's my basic army rundown:

    Lt with Darkblade
    Great Unclean One

7 Possessed with Daemonic Talons, Rhino w/ extra armour, smoke

7 Plague Marines, Champ with powerfist, Nurgle's rot, 2 x Plasma Guns, Rhino w/ extra armour, smoke, combi-flamer
7 Plague Marines, Champ with powerfist, Nurgle's rot, 2 x Plasma Guns
7 Plague Marines, Champ with powerfist, Nurgle's rot, 1 x Plasma Gun, 1 X melta gun, Infiltration
    7 Plaguebearers
    5 Nurgling Bases

    Defiler
Predator with TL lascannons, las sponsons

To hit 2000, I think I may need to include 5 terminators I have lying around. What kind of advantages do wraithguard/wraithlord have and what should I watch out for in the eldar? Does this look like a decent "preliminary" list for the game? Thanks!

I would advise some more Plaguebearers, but if you havn't got any available, it won't be too bad.

Terminators? BIG No-no! He's almost certain to have some wave serpents or falcons to transport his guys around, and these will certainly have some Starcannons. These things spell death for your entire army. Here's a run down of your list:

    Lt with Darkblade
    Great Unclean One
These seem fine. He'll have a pretty hard time killing them, but it might be worth giving him a plague sword and daemonic strength, so any wounds he can get will hopefully bring a wraithlord down.

7 Possessed with Daemonic Talons, Rhino w/ extra armour, smoke
Good! Not sure about the Rhino, but these fellas will be very useful with their rending.

7 Plague Marines, Champ with powerfist, Nurgle's rot, 2 x Plasma Guns, Rhino w/ extra armour, smoke, combi-flamer
7 Plague Marines, Champ with powerfist, Nurgle's rot, 2 x Plasma Guns
7 Plague Marines, Champ with powerfist, Nurgle's rot, 1 x Plasma Gun, 1 X melta gun, Infiltration
More! the squads looks good but you realistically need more guys than this. You WILL take a lot of casualties either way....providing this Iyanden player knows what he's doing.

    7 Plaguebearers
    Ace...looks good!

    5 Nurgling Bases
Against a Iyanden army, these things are pointlessness on legs. Drop them for something worthwhile. I love the little dudes. I do, but it's a waste of 50 points against this army.

    Defiler
Good. I advise giving this indirect fire if it hasn't got it already. Don't bother with mutated hull, as anything that can hurt it (bright lances) will reduce its armour to 12 anyway. Parasitic Possession might be worth it, though.

Predator with TL lascannons, las sponsons
This is expensive. I would advise dropping it for a dreadnought and some upgrades, but if these aren't available, make sure you keep it out of LoS in your first turn. Use it to smack around anything with Bright Lances, and like with the Defiler, don't bother with Mutated hull.

    Hope that helps...

I would say give your lt the manreaper and D stregnth.. this is an excellent combo. Also, I'd say add more plaguebearers over terminators

beware of the starcannons aswell because they will tear through your expensive plauge marines despite the high toughness. I think they can come on wraithlords but am not sure. the wraith gaurd arnt too much hassle just dont get high wound or expensive characters within their range or u may spend some time in the warp

I ended up adding a dreadnought to the army and didn't take terminators and I am at around 1800 points, and this is with a liberal sprinkling of wargear. My style of play prefers using as many 7 man PM squads as possible, because usually they can outshoot any squad thats not a heavy weapons squad, and also do pretty well in hand-to-hand (thanks true grit!) with the Asp. Champions having powerfists to tip the scales and also deal with tanks/high armour saves. I am also a big fan of plaguebearers-they get 4+ to wound against the wraithlords, so I plan on dropping them as close as possible to them. Also, do plaguebearers count as having plagueswords (1 wound kills)? I don't have my codex handy and every night for the last few days I have forgetten to check it...

One more question! It seems that the Plague Banner would be a good idea against the Wraithlords/wraithguard. What do you guys think?

You could try the 4x Plasma gun squad as a wraithlord killer. Deploy in infiltrated hard cover (like 4+ if you can find it) and put plasma down range. It'll take 2 turns to kill a wraithlord at 24 inches and if you get a lucky rapid you can kill one in a single turn.

Ahaaa! Excellent idea. Its expensive, but could very well pay off if you roll a 3+ when a wraithlord is coming to try do you in!

I'd drop all the Rhino's in favor of infiltrating everyone. Those Rhinos will get smoked. Inflitrate everyone so you can get to CC fast. Drop the pred in favor of the Havocs with Plasma Guns. The worst list I've ever played against was a fully infitrating DG army.

Wraithguard are tough in CC with their extra wounds, but at least they wont be firing their AP2 weapons at you. If you can try and get into CC with something before they can shoot at it.

I won! A blast on the first turn from my defiler killed 5 howling banshees, causing the rest of them to break and run off the table! Killed 1 wraithlord with plaguebearers and another with possessed with daemonic talons. Nurglings ran across the table all turn, he never even shot them. I didn't get a chance to use the plague banner, but Nurgle's rot made up its points. My predator didn't do crap against his skimmers since they were constantly moving (could only glance). Best unit was definately the possessed, which killed a wraithlord, 5 wraithguard, a warlock, and were about to slay some dark reapers when we called the game. Toughness 5 makes Death Guard VERY tough in hand to hand combat. His 30 attacks from 10 charging banshees needed 6 to wound my troopers, and ended up only killing 2 the first round.
