I have always loved this piece of wargear, but rarely had a chance to use it. At 50 points, its an expensive piece of wargear, but the ability to basically point at models within 6" of your banner bearer and say "take a wound with no armour save" is pretty good. Granted d6 wounds is too random to make a strategy out of it, but against expensive models, all you really need is a roll of a 3-4 to make its points up. It seems to me it would be good in a "my tooled up HQ unit vs your tooled up HQ unit" kinda situation, where the models are usually more expensive, as nice little suprise. At fifty points, no one can really call it cheese as its just very expensive and you have to get close enough to even use it to get your points back. I also kind of find it nice and fluffy, as I image a dirty banner with diseased guts, appendages, and vermin crawling all over it. Then when close combat starts, the banner bearer points at the enemy models and a foul wind blows through the banner causing the enemy to fall on their knees in fits of vomiting bile and boils erupting on their skin. Oh Grandfather Nurgle how you make me shiver with glee!
Any good stories of you killing some high points models out there with this thing?
Kill Maim Burn
While I am sure there are better targets, the juiciest victims that ever fell to my Plague banner were a DE Archon's incubi retinue.
"A 5! Ok, those 5 incubi die with no save."
"My Plague Banner."
"How much does that thing cost?"
He was appalled until I told him it was one use only.
Not that it mattered, I think I still went on to lose the game.
In the long run, its not the somewhat high cost of the banner that I mind, because if you pick your target, it can be worth its points cost and give you a quick(and surprising to your opponent), tactical advantage.
The problem is that in order to get it, you need to buy a unit of Chosen.
Which means 'wasted' points unless you go wacky on the ACs or give them terminator armour.
Leaving you spending a lot of points in order to get a banner which is in the final analysis, one use and short ranged. In order to solve the last problem, you're looking at either infiltration, a Rhino or again terminator armour. Meaning more points are spent to make your banner useful.

New 40K missions here.
I've seen one used to take down a Wraithlord.
"Muhaha, you've only got S6. Prepare to be squished"
"Let's see......take 4 wounds"
I believe it's only 1 wound per model max...
Kill Maim Burn
It doesn't state anything like that.
Its D6 wounds per unit, and a unit can consist of an independant character, so it can be targeted seperately providing its close enough, while not within 6" of another unit, or an MC. Perhaps you're thinking of Nurgles Rot?
My best kill is a Nightbringer. I rolled a 5 and he failed every one of his 4+ invulnerables. To be frank, taking a nightbringer and 2 monoliths in 1500 points....he deserved that.
