For my chaos chapter that i made up which legions rule set would be best to use with them for assault.
Best for CC? Probally any of them besides Iron Warriors and sometimes 1ksons but its really up to you. Just pick which one looks the funnest to play with.

Ok to be specific:
Alpha Legion-infiltrates so that you can assault earlier.
Iron Warriors-not many assault tactics.
Word Bearers-the demon bomb. Drive forwards and drop demons on them.
Night Lords-A lot of fast units to assault faster.
Black Legion-can do anything you want to do.
World Eaters-nasty cc units with blood frenzy.
Death Guard-has true grit to help in cc.
Emperors children-mostly meant for their ranged sonic weaponry.
Thousand Sons-with 2 wounds they can receive a charge really well but are to slow to assault people with.
Just pick whether you like to infiltrate into assaults, move quickly into assaults, deepstrike/summon into assaults or simply charge the basic 6" with nasty cc units.
I think Iron warriors could make a decent assault army, maybe 4 dreadnoughts, or havoc squads with assault weaponry. A bit unusual, but it could be effective. The Emperor's Children armory has some of the best assault items in the whole chaos codex - combat drugs, doom sirens, warp scream...
yes Iron warriors do have some tactics like dreads and flamers. Emperors Children have some assault things too but again they are meant for medium range shooting.
I just remembered you made that poseidan chapter so maybe you could use Night Lords. Night Lords strike out of no-where and terrorise their enemies without fear of retaliation. Maybe you could convert some raptors that come from below water rather then fly.
Thanks for the input. Yeah i haven't got to the combat doctrine yet but almost all marines attack from underwater fluff wise. and right now i'm 90% positive about going with night lords.
