Ok, as i may have mentioned already somewhere, (I forget where), i'm working on a Word Bearer army, as there SERIOUSLY underplayed. At least I think they are. (Damn all you Khorne and Nurgle lovers, damn you! hehe). Anywho, I'm trying to decide wether i should design the Army more towards close combat goodness, or make it a 50/50 mix of shooting and HtH, or more shooting and just run some units up to let the demons handle hth. All the lists i've made have had a 50 50 mix of hth and shooty squads, 2 of each, with 3 squads of demons, (4 of i split the 12 daemonettes into 2 six girl squads). I was thinking about making a blood angels reminisence force, with a chaplain and retinue resembling death company, and then just 4 squads of assaulty marines backed up by a squad of 8 bloodletters, 12 daemonettes and 9 flamers of tzeentch, with two dreadnoughts. all the squads would have a power fist on the champ (no rhino's with new assault rules) all with furious assault, maybe a land raider to stick the lord + retinue in.
Any advice on how you'd set up the list? I'm not used to playing HtH armies, and want something other than the shooty armies i have now. *despises world eaters*
I suppose the first thing I should ask is what armies do you see most often and do you plan on playing RTTs?
I like to build most my armies for RTT's if possible, and i mainly play a variety, necrons, space wolves, BA's, IW, Dark angels, vanilla marines..
iirc word bearers are cc oriented, so hth would be better, theres always different chaos chapters that are more shooty if you want

i play 1k sons and IW hehe
i usually go with two bolter squads and one hth squad (i like to use 12- man squads, man it's just the number!
you always want daemons
plague bearers are resilient and can bring anything down, bad is that they can kill ur own troops
bloodletters are resilient, fast, attacky, and good against all armor, bad is that they cost so much
horrors are just a sea of wounds for your opponent to wade through, it takes a lot of time to do, and that creates perfect opportunities to get set up bad thing is that um there is no really bad thing, they just kinda suck in hth
daemonettes are super fast, attacky, and are good against almost anything, bad is that they are super fragile, with toughness 3 lasguns have a okay chance of wounding (1/6)
Greater daemons just kinda suck, unless its a blood thirsty, you get one of those monsters into kombat, you've got an unstoppable killing machine
in my mind a dark apostle and chosen are necessary, mount them in a rhino and watch your little group take down squad after squad
sometimes i use raptors and/or havocs, it kinda depends on the scenario
if you want to have a hth army, try two hth squads and one bolter squad or whatever you would like
the only thing i really haven't tried yet are the daemon beasts, my friend told me that they are okay, but not too great
I'll keep that in mind. I don't like plaguebearers that much, though i might get at least 1 squad just to have incase i get the whim to use em. How many demon packs do you use in a 1500 pt game? Thats mainly the size games that i play, occassionally a 1000 pt or a 2k point game. Oh, Dreadnoughts, at all? I like em, they'd be good support for hth troops. maybe just give em a heavy flamer and an additional close combat weapon, and dirge caster to make my troops fearless P
I'm playing WB as well and made them ~50-50 cc-shooty. That is, I've got two squads of havocs (one anti-troops, one anti-armour) and a chaplain with a shooty retinue driving around in a Land Raider. All of the troops are daemons from all four gods, so they're mostly cc.
Mind you that this is the first army I ever made so I didn't really know what would work when I started it. I just followed the fluff really (WB think daemons are expendable and let them do the dirty work). The LR isn't really necessary but I bought it for half-price and it's too cool not to use.
