Let me tell you all a story . (0 Replies). LuciusTheTemporary. 12/14/2003 13:30 (12/14/2003 13:30)
...and it's true.
Once, long ago, there was a Chaos player. He was first tempted by the dark gods in the dying days of the second age. A bleak time it was, where the most prized of all things was the fixed save, said to make the bearer invulnerable. Such was its value that all armies of the Wolfmen were led by the exact same ponce in a topknot. For he had two such saves, and was greatly envied for it.
But then there came a new age, a time of reason where men, not gods, would decide the fate of the universe. And the Chaos Player decided to raise a great legion of darkness to smite the righteous. For no one seemed to be taking his stunted beardlings seriously any more.
Time moved quickly, and the evil host was soon blessed with a mighty codex. The Chaos Player seized this tome and consumed its dark secrets, but was puzzled when he studied the armaments of his champions. For it seemed the forces of darkness had no imvulnerable. But the game was young, and his foes were still under the sway of the great black book of rules. Perhaps, he thought, in this new dawn, invulnerables shall be few.
But time brought new Codexes, and with each one, more and more foes became invulnerable. Even the crude Orks and the poorly-armed Guardsmen possessed glittering energy fields to protect their soft flesh from the weaponries of the enemy. And the Chaos Player did wonder if he and his kind had been shafted.
But stubborn he was, and much resources had gone into his evil host, so he fought on. Often he lost, but often he won, and he began to realise his evil champion needed no such protection. For he had six attacks on the charge and could kill entire units single-handed. And if he did fall, was there not an entire army to avenge his death? So he fought on, and the galaxy burned.
In time, the Dark Gods bestowed a new Codex on their minions, and the Chaos Player was anxious to know its secrets. And a moment's joy reached his black heart when there, in the heart of their armoury, was the invulnerable he had once sought! No more need he fear the gleaming blades of the Emperor's warriors or the seething projectiles of the degenerate Eldar.
"Hang on," he thought "I've been winning games for years without any invulnerable saves. Why should I need one now?" And so, he rejected the aura of the daemon, and returned to battle. And the galaxy continued to burn, albeit in a greater variety of colours.
But now, new foes were arising. The living dead crawled from their ancient tombs, and the servants of the Inquisition began their holy war. And there was much fear in the land, for it was said their weapons made a mockery of the invulnerable, that no force field could deflect the scything blades of the dead ones, that no magic could ward off the instruments of destruction wielded by the exorcists. And there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and the people cried out to the dark gods that controlled all fate to bless them with pointlessly complicated special rules, so they might shelter from their new enemies bneath the comforting warmth of the invulnerable once more.
And the Chaos player smiled. For he knew they did not understand.

Same it reality an story put togethre
*wipes the blood leaking from the corroded orifice in his head that once resembled an eye before chaos had his way with him* That was inspiring, even though i am already fully swayed to the powers of chaos, let the righteous that foolheartedly follow the great corpse god be swayed as well to the true gods of the univers, the rightful gods, the gods of chaos!
(hehe, couldn't help myself)
Bah! Foolish mon-keigh, all of you! I think Khorne and Eldar should chill out sometime...'cos they both HAAAATE Slaanesh...so that's cool.
As a Tyranid Player, I lost all my Invulnerable Saves. I don't mind so much. Great post.
A Great post. I have experianced similar things when playing my Space Marines. Every other Force Commander I've ever encountered is kitted out with Artificer Armor and an Iron Halo, I never give Armor upgrades to my FC's and they usually seem to get the better of thier foes. Those points acn be used somewhere else. I sometimes give the Veteran Sargent from my Assault Squads an Iron Halo just as a nasty surprise, but Heroes usually go without armor upgrades... 3+ is a damn good save anyway...
