Ok ive decieded to start my 2nd army, and have picked Tzeentch to be it.
Im starting from SCRATCH so im trying to work out a good army, i was viewing the models online and notice in the box set of 1k sons the AC doesnt come with a POWERFIST. I was wondering what i need to get and where to get a tzeentch AC with a power fist.
rough list is going to be
lt- geared for HTH
3- squads of tzeentch marines, 1 in a rhino 2 walking ( should the walking ones just be armed with power weapon instead of a Power Fist?
2-3 predators--- how should i arm these? was think auto cannona nd 2 lascannons for both of em, and if i get a 3rd arm it with auto cannon and h.bolters
going to get a dread but i want the Forgeworld one, so it will be a bit.
after i get that all assembled and play test for a bit, ill probably move onto the lord of change and then some termies.
How about thralls? i hear allot about them, but my codex for chaos is @ a buddies house so i havent looked into them much. what exactly do they do? and do they take up room in rhinos?

It is a wise decision you've made. Thousand sons are a great army to field. May take some getting used to but when you get the hang of it...
To get power fists on your champs you must convert them. This is no big deal though I would even say it's really fun.
Thralls you say...they are our best friends. Read the codex and you'll see... and yes they do take up room in a transport. But this apart they are still worth every one of the few points they cost.
A lot of people say Preds are the ultimate support for TS and they do have them lascannons, but I found the Defiler to be a real asset in my army. Dreads are also nice as they give you that extra CC-ability. Warpflame is awsome on dreads by the way.
You have a nice list of units there, but two I miss. It's the Rubric terminators and the Flamers. Both of them add considerable power to your force, both in their own way.
Take a look on the other Thousand Sons lists in the Army-list section to get a hang of them if you feel for it.
And most of all good luck and welcome.
thanks for the reply!Originally Posted by Andusciassus
BUT can i get some recommendations on what exactly to buy from GW... im guessing 3 box sets of the troops, 2 or 3 blisters of thralls? and say 1 LT with power weapon? and then of course the rhino and preds.
would u put power weapons in foot slogger marines ? or a powerfist also?
and i dont see many armies with the LORD OF CHANGE in it... is he better keeped for bigger games? like 2k+?
AND as for the conversion, do you convert the model that comes with the 1k sons box set?

Hmm I havn't thought of it till you asked the question, but ya, most Thousand Sons players don't tend to use him. The lord of change is an awsome model, with nice stats, the reason I think they're not seen very much I think has more to do with what you have to give up to take him rather than any deficiency on his part.Originally Posted by hardcastle
Taking a Lord of Change means that you loose an aspiring champion that has already been upgraded to a sorcerer. As sorcerer's are the lifeblood of Thousand sons this is a hard sacrifice to justify.
It is odd, in many ways the Lord of Change is better taken in a Black Legion force: the daemonvessel can have the mark of chaos undivided wich is way cheeper, it doesn't take away much firepower from the daemonvessel's squad. So it's both cheaper and less of a tactical sacrifice to take.
At least that's my shot at why it's the case, I guess an actuall Thousand Sons player could answer the question better than myself however.
Votewar MKV 2nd place. . .
Back from internet limbo, and glad to be here.
Forget the Lord of Change, an AC with a powerfist, ccw/bp or whatever for extra attack and bolt of change is much more useful.
You've got a good composition with 2 walking and 1 riding squads, I recommend a predator and a defiler. For your HQ I favor 2 choices: cheap sorceror lt riding a disk with power weapon for support and casting some mean spells, or a tooled out demon prince with stature. You need a little extra punch due to the squad composition of 1k sons. Also giving them speed or flight (I prefer speed) lets you tie up units. My lord was the stature+dreadaxe=you get no saves variety which is always fun
When you get up to 2k points and above have some fun and make yourself some rubric terminators, if nothing other than the fact you can have 2 wound terminators For 1750 points and below though I recommend packing as many 9-man squads as you can bring along with the aforementioned Heavy options.
Karnov let all of us fulfil our repressed dreams of being a fat Russian man running around in the great outdoors and getting shot at by weird stone heads and crap. You didn't have a repressed fantasy about doing such marvelous things? Well, I don't believe you . . . [djpretzel]
Well, I have converted the Thousand Sons Champion model, it is a beautiful piece in original it's a shame that it doesn't come with a fist though.
And the Rubrik terminators are also fun to convert. If you check my gallery, to get the link check my signature on the left,, on page 2-3 I have some old pics of my sons.
Note to self update gallery.
Thralls do not come in blisters, there are different models you can use for them, I have converted old Woodelf archers, they are nice, cheap and come with a hooded cloak.
To buy I ould recommend three boxes of Sons, a Terminator, some models to use as thralls and the heavy support.
I equip all my champs with Power Fists. As TS are fearless they never back away from CC and this means they can be locked up in a battle they cannot win if they have Power Weapons only.
Other than this I recommend a Rhino or two, the HS you mentioned and nine Flamers. A normal Sorcerer model can also be good to have for a cheap HQ. Next thing to get would be Rubrik Terminators and wether you base those on the CS-termies or the new plastic ones are up to you...
I was thinking just putting in a lord/LT and put him in the RHINO squad. You would recommend a DP or a sorc on a DISC over that?
almost about to order the army from gc-minis.com
3 boxs for 1k sons
ill pick up the thralls at the local store so i can see exactly what is out there. Any other recomendations? ill be playing vs SM/WH/Necrons/Orks/Chaos
I think three Preds can be a bit over the top.
I strongly recommend a Defiler. Why not two Preds and one Defiler. The Defiler's strength (apart from that lovely battlecannon) is it's ability to fire indirectly. This means you can shoot what you cannot see, and that is very good.
It also packs a punch in CC which is always fun when that cannon has been disabled.
Even though the Sons has no S9 weaponry they have loads of S8 so medium tanks will not live long and there is not that many AV14 tanks around afterall.
As for the HQ question I must admit that I have had most success when leaving CC to the Champs. A tooled up Champion (D.mut, P-fist, Wind and gift+ some thralls) in a Rhino and/or Rubric Terminators seems to be able to deal with most opponents.
Then let the Lt make use of that superior BS. This combined with Bolt of Change and thralls is very hard indeed.
If you play this army right there is not much that reaches your line anyway.
As for tactical advice, keep your fire focused. Stay close together so your units can support one and other and take out any Psychic Hood carrying character as soon as possible, they can really pull your teeth out.
And Thralls, use them... alot of them.
Use Gift of Chaos as a sniper weapon in CC to target any Powerfist wielding model or enemy HQ.
The "havoc-set-up" is a true horror full squad of Sons incl. champ with Bolt of Change and 4 thralls together with Lt with Bolt and 4 Thralls. that's 4 S8 assault 24" AP2 shots a turn, not bad.
Well just sent in the order today
4 1k sons boxes
8 flamers ( comes in blisters of 2x or would of gotten 9 )
2 pred tanks
so once i get em, ill do the POWERFIST SWAPS and start assembling! ill be getting a dread next from forgeworld and might add a defiler down the road.
any opinions or recomendations? would it be best to have 3 squads walking and 1 in a rhino or 2 walking 2 in the rhino?
I've had great success with small squads in Rhinos. You don't have to keep the sacred number at all cost you know. In the heat of battle you'll gain more from the thralls then from a Rubric or two.
I've fielded five men squads (4 rubrics and one champ) with four thralls and they can do a lot of damage, especially when the champ starts transforming opponents into spawns. Those squads are a bit fragile though, like a normal sized SM-squad:rolleyes: , with only nine wounds plus thralls and Spawns. So be carefull and remember to thin the enemiy unit with two winds of Chaos before charging.
EDIT: so that would be three walking and two in rhinos.
